New with a carpet question!

Hi all!  I don't think I've ever introduced myself on this board.  I'm 28, and have been married a little over a year.  We currently live in a 1-bedroom apartment, but we're hoping to buy house next summer.  We have a dog named Bugsy, and no kids yet.

I need help with a carpet cleaning question.  I had a bag with some bathroom stuff in it in my closet, including a bottle of body wash.  Well, the bottle of body wash fell over and broke, and before I saw it, it had made a mess on my carpet.  I tried pouring water on it and then soaking it up with a towel and also tried blotting it with a wet towel then soaking it up again, but it felt like it just kept getting bubbly (like what it does in the shower).  I couldn't tell if it was actually picking it up or not.  So, today I put powder carpet cleaner on it, and I'm waiting for it to dry so I can vacuum it up.  Hopefully this works!

I'm hoping you guys might have some suggestions as well!  TIA!
