How will you juggle life and Nano?

I know everyone has lots of other stuff going on in their lives, and I'm curious as to how they'll juggle "life" stuff with writing for Nano.

I have work, school, and housework.  I may ask DH to do a little extra around the house for me, so I have more time to write.  I'm planning on using my lunch breaks at work to write.  I'm doing FBC, so I still want to have time for reading, too.  Sadly, I'm not too concerned about my schoolwork.  It's my last semester, so I'm pretty much over it all.  Embarrassed

Who am I kidding.  I probably won't do any housework and will sneak extra time in during work just so I can write.  My school assignments will be done at the last minute and will suck.  And I probably won't finish a book in November.  Lol.

Re: How will you juggle life and Nano?

  • I've made it very clear to most people in my life that I will be MIA in November.  DH is aware he'll need to step up help with the house and the kids, and I'm already taking steps to limit my internet time sucks (special filters for emails, probably uninstalling my tweetdeck and deleting bookmarks to things like FB).  I plan to do the bulk of my writing during nap times in the afternoon (and also a couple of mornings a week while kiddo #1 is in school and kiddo #2 naps) and then after they go to bed.  I also plan to go to our rec center so I can drop them at the daycare but instead of working out I'll snag a couch and use their WiFi to get some writing done.  I'm also trying this weekend to get some extra meals made and into the freezer and filling up the pantry so hopefully I can shave some time off meal prep and use that time to do my chores I normally do after kids are in bed.

  • I haven't won the past 2 NaNos because I've sucked at juggling. I work a FT job, my DH works nights leaving care for our DD (4 the first year I did NaNo, 6 this year) to me... I have normal household chores and stuff to do as well, etc.

This year, though, I will be on maternity leave. Smile And I am hoping and praying the baby stays put until my due date 12/2! (OK OK he/she can come 12/1 but that's it!) Wink

Of course I'll be nesting and resting and all of that fun stuff but I plan to dedicate 2 hours every morning (between dropping DD off at school and when DH comes home for lunch) to writing, and hopefully that will help me hit 50K!

  • A huge help for me will be my train trip to see family for Kansas. I'll have a combined total of 22 hours on a train to write. That doesn't include layover time :)

Also, I'm going to set aside a dedicated hour to write each night. Last year, I didn't meet the goal, but I noticed on the nights when I set a goal of an hour, I exceeded it. When I didn't set a goal, I hardly wrote at all.
