New Halloween "attraction"
A friend of a friend started this not-for-profit creepy forest haunt in Hudson, WI and is having a blast scaring the crap out of people :-) Open Fridays and Saturdays, tickets are $10 or $8 with a non-perishable.
Check it out -- NOT for the under 13 crowd.
Dreadwood Forest
(P.S. You can also volunteer to be one of the creepers!)
Re: New Halloween "attraction"
I have a friend that is a creeper here, and I have heard good/fun things about it
(and I definitely 2nd Kate's comment about no kids!)
A Little Bird and a Monkey Butt
I was interested until I read the waiver... I have a neck injury. Is there really a chance of bodily harm, or is this just to cover their a$s from sue-happy people?
I think it is to just cover their butt. They aren't actually allowed to intentionally hurt anyone.
Being realistic, it is a forest-haunt (not a house where you are always 30 feet from an exit), so if you can handle the trek through the forest, I would imagine you would be fine. (Unless of course a zombie scares you so horribly that you take off running through the woods, trip over a tree-root and face plant into the ground...)
(Can you believe that there are haunts out there where they are actually allowed to hurt people??? None I know of in MN, but I have heard stories - it seems crazy to me!)
A Little Bird and a Monkey Butt
It's butt-coverage. I'm sure there's a chance someone might do the "spook" grab, but no real physical interaction.
If you're still worried, shoot an email through the "contact us" to ask.
omg, I did the scariest haunted house on the planet in Rural North Carolina. It's run by Oscar winners who did Freddy Krueger movies n such (it's cool b/c they'll store the awards in an area after you've done the whole thing)
The problem was the next morning I had 13 REALLY scary wild episodes of bizarre heart racing/blips. My dr said if I wasn't an otherwise healthy 23 year old he'd have me in the ER.
I ended up with some amazing medical diagnosis' and answers to lifelong issues, but holy crap! Just one haunted house did that to me?? I remember the sign at that place said pregnant women or people with heart conditions should not go through. Little did I know that was the last night I'd be in the camp of people who didn't have (Or know they had) heart problems!
We went on Friday night. Re the waiver: the terrain is VERY uneven...lots of steep climbs and descents. Don't even think about wearing anything but tennis shoes or something you can hike in. I slipped once going down a hill. They try to make you hold onto a rope, which is the worst, but I ditched it because there were just too many people on it, and it made it too difficult to walk safely.
As far as the attraction goes, it was kinda ehhh. We talked to one of the proprietors afterward, and he said that they REALLY need more volunteers to really make it scary. They definitely have the makings for something that could be really great, but the scares were spaced out too much. It was only their 2nd weekend being open, so they're working out some kinks.
100% of the proceeds go to charity though, which is great.
