QOTD

For those of us who Nest at work (which I know is a lot of us), do you worry about getting in trouble? Have you ever gotten in trouble for being on the Internet at work?

Re: QOTD

  • Yes and Yes.  Prior to my delivery I had completely "checked out" of work, and my director walked by and caught me. Oops.  Since I have been back, I am trying really hard to stay focused.  I still check out/lurk way to much during the day.  At least now I have a second monitor so he can't see what is on that screen when he walks by.  I don't know if that is a good or bad thing.

  • Yes I'm a bit afraid, but I haven't gotten in trouble yet.  I went through a patch where I was kinda checked out too, and have been trying my best to put the focus back on my work, but even when I'm swamped I find myself spending a few minutes here and there check the boards.  I guess they're my "smoke break".

  • Ditto raynes exactly.  I should not be here as much as I want to be - trying to just pop in at lunch and early/late in the day.

  • Never gotten in trouble and I really don't worry about it too much. The understanding is that as long as the work is getting done, we're fine. I don't post/lurk much past the morning, though, so it's never on my screen for too long. ;)

This. My boss knows that I'm a quality employee and will get my work done even if I'm spending a little bit of time goofing around on the internet throughout the day. That being said, I still try to pull up an Excel sheet or something else when he walks in the office.

Ditto.  Also, I often see the guy next to me checking on some other kind of discussion board - think either motorcycle related or running/triathalon related.  So I don't feel too bad.

The one thing that does worry we more is the stupid ads on the side that promote all things BABY related in big letters.  I don't want my coworkers to get the wrong idea if they see those.  Please tell me if there's a way to turn those stupid things off!

I don't really worry because i have to bill my time to clients.  Clearly nesting isn't time that can be billed, so it's like doing it on my time.  As long as I get the work done and the hours get billed, it's ok.  And I've been trying not to Nest too much at work since I'm still pretty new.  Agreed on the having something else on the screen though for when someone walks by.

  • I don't worry about it too much. I usually nest while I do my work so I don't just nest all day. I do make sure to minimize the stuff I shouldn't be looking at when my boss or anybody else is around. Thankfully I haven't gotten in trouble for it yet.

  • I generally don't worry about it at all. Considering that my coworkers do their homework and watch videos/check out new games on their iphones all day, I don't worry about reading stuff on the internet. As long as I'm not stalking facebook or watching movies, I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter. I agree with the adds, though. Those things are large and obnoxious.

  • The only time I would have to worry about it is if I did it from the classroom! I only ever do it from my office.
