Oatmeal recommendation?

Anyone have any they recommend I try? The breakfast aisle is a little overwhelming. Anyone try making their own steel cut oats? I'm not normally a fan of oatmeal but would really like to find one that I would like eating for breakfast. TIA!

  • I like Quaker Weight Control Banana Bread flavor.  It's pretty filling and tastes good without added sweetener. It's my go to breakfast during the week.  I sometimes cut apples into it as well.

    I also recently tried Better Oats Lavish Dark Chocolate.  It's chocolate oatmeal, which is pretty weird.  Definitely not something I would buy regularly, but interesting!

  • I love quick 1 minute oats made with water and then add brown sugar.  Not a big fan of the instant packets and the quick 1 min really is quick...

  • I'm hooked on Better Oats.  My favorite breakfast right now is a packet of the Oat Fit, 1/4 cup of dried cranberries.  Let it cook according to the package (microwave).  Then add 2-3 T of low sugar orange marmalade.  Cranberry orange oatmeal.

  • I just use regular Quaker rolled oats (NOT instant/quick oats--I don't like the texture of instant oats).  I prepare them according to the directions, but I replace some of the water with milk, and I add a splash of vanilla.  While the oats are boiling, I toast slivered almonds in a separate pan, and then just as the oats are finishing, I add the toasted almonds, dried cranberries, cinnamon and brown sugar.

    This is my standard, but I sometimes use pecans instead of almonds, or other dried or fresh fruit that I have on hand. Sometimes I add a little bit of shredded coconut or flax seeds, etc.

    Takes just 5 minutes!

    I've used whole oats in the past--the kind that come in the tin and take ~20 min. to prepare, and I remember they were really good, but I haven't quite been motivated enough to spend the extra time on my oatmeal :)

  • I LOVE steel cut oats.  We make them all the time with a little brown sugar or whatever topping you usually put on oatmeal.  They are a bit heartier and have more substance to them.  If you like bananas, you can nuke a banana in the skin for about 20-30 seconds and it carmelizes (sp?).  Put that on top with some brown sugar.  Yum!!
  • I was totally crazy about the Brothers-All-Natural Fruit Oatmeal cups we got at Costco, but then they stopped carrying it. I've looked at other stores and haven't found it yet, but if I get desperate, I'll just start buying it online. :)
