Just sign us up for tubes (ear) right now...

Duncan now has an ear infection in his right ear. At least this time we caught it early on Friday evening and went to the after hours clinic. He is so congested and coughing and has had real problems breathing so we took him in-- I was thinking sinus infection. The pedi on call took one look in his ears and said nope... ear infection. She asked if this was his first and if he showed any symptoms (showed absolutetly none again) we told her about his left ear... she said... "hmmm... hope this doesn't have to lead to tubes in the ear". Gggg-rrr-eeaattt.

Re: Just sign us up for tubes (ear) right now...

  • Poor Duncan. Kate does he normally STTN? The only way my mom ever knew I had an ear infection when I would wake up in the middle of the night. It got to the point where my pedi use to tell her to come in the next day after I didn't STTN because it was an ear infection. I was like Duncan and never shown any signs besides waking up at night.

I had three sets up tubes, and I know it is hard to hear, but they are not the worse things in the world. I hope Duncan doesn't need them, but if he does, he will do just fine getting them put in. I just hope your little man grows out of them like most normal children do. I was not normal and still get them to this day.

  • just a little bit of advice (don't know if it's too late or not) but regular chiropractic adjustments (1x/month) are proven to help ear infections and against having to get tubes in the ears. also, don't know if he drinks cows milk yet or if you BF and you do, but a digestive allergy to cows milk can also create ear infections.

in any case, hope he doesn't need them but maybe you want to try a chiropractor! good luck duncan!

  • I see lots of kids at work with ear infections (i'm an audiologist).

Agreed with Dana, tubes are hard for mom, but they can make baby feel so much better.  If this is his first infection, don't jump to tubes just yet.  Ear infections clear up on their own 50% of the time even without medications.  Don't be shocked if you don't see symptoms. . .I'm often surprised to see happy smiling babies, and then do a check on their ears and find out they have ear infections or fluid.

I've never heard the cows milk or the chiropractic thing, but it's worth at try!

  • I 'll have to check into the chiropractic thing...  I really do think that Dunc has allergies--and it leads to the ear infections--he stuffy and sneezes all the time, just like me right now. I am hoping that once we get a couple of good hard freezes that it will calm down, but I also worry that it could be the cat -- Jim's allergic to cat, and I we work hard to keep the house extra clean because of it.

you may want to check into NAET. i didn't know he already could have allergies. it's quite possible that it's a contributing factor. we do it in our office and i have even done it.  it's completely holistic and i truly believe in it. check out www.naet.com
