KATH

This is what my nutritionist had to say--I said that you were lactose intolerant, which you might not be, but I wasn't sure.

Depending on how server her lactose intolerance is she may not be able to tolerate whey protein.  Even though lactose intolerance is a response to the sugar or lactose in milk some people can't tolerate whey protein since they can have trace amounts of lactose in them.  Looking for a whey protein isolate instead of a whey protein concentrate will help prevent any lactose from being present.   A good one is BiPro, it's 100% Whey Protein Isolate, I have only seen it online though.  Also maybe Whole Food's 365 brand Whey Protein Powder may work for her, this does have some whey concentrate so she may or may not be able to tolerate it.

Other proteins she could do if she is worried about whey are soy protein, hemp protein, pea protein or rice protein.  As for medals in the proteins, I haven't heard of that specifically, I can look into it more.  Whenever you are getting a protein powder though, looking at the ingredients is important.  She wants to find the "simplest" ingredients or fewest possible.

Re: KATH

  • Ohhhhhh Shauni, Thank you so much!  What a great help!  I will looking into those whey proteins.  I'm thinking about doing soy protein simply because I only do soy milk.  But I'm not lactose intolerate...just like how I feel on soy versa dairy.  I still love ice cream and use dairy creamer from time to time.  I'm wondering if maybe cutting it half whey and half soy.

I hadn't even thought about looking for the fewest ingredients!!!  Duhhhh...I try to live by this!  (Although it is difficult)  When I am in the grocery store, I pick up so many items and put them down after I get to the 6 or 7th ingredient!

Thank you thank you thank you!!!!!  And thank you to your nutritionist!  I'm going to print this off for future reference!

I hope you have a fantastic day!
