I'm going back and forth between what I want for a new phone as I need one for work. Requirements:
1. I can check my Outlook exchange server.
2. Navigation.
3. Doesn't suck.
4. Cool apps.
I'm back and forth between getting an Android-based phone or an iPhone. I love the iPhone but it seems like you have to pay for a lot of stuff (navigation, backing up contacts, etc.). Can someone help shed light?
Thanks!
Jess

I love my puppy ... and my husband, I swear!
Re: iPhone? Android? Help!
I, for one, would never get an iPhone because I hate AT&T with the fire of a thousand suns. Also, the people that I know that have them, even though they LURV them, complain often about the lack of Flash Player. Which makes the internet suck. It's kind of funny listening to everyone talk about how awesome their iPhone is, but then they're cursing under their breath every 5 minutes because something isn't working right.
I would go with an Android-based phone, which has Flash. You don't realize how much of the internet uses Flash until you don't have it. Without it, you need to download apps for pretty much every site, if they're even available, and that's a PITA, especially if other options exist. I'm not sure about the apps for the Droid; I know there are apps, but they may not be as extensive as those for the iPhone since it's newer. I would think that it won't be long before they catch up though. A girl I worked with switched from the iPhone to the Droid and said that there was absolutely no comparison.
IUI #1 10/12/11 (Bravelle + HCG + Prometrium & acupuncture) = 10/26 BFP! Beta #1=250, Beta #2= 615. 1st u/s 11/8.
I have a droid with verizon and love it (most days). There are tons of apps out there, some free, some not. I don't know about outlook but you can just ask a tech guy at the store about setting that up and I'm sure you can. Not sure who you're provider is but if it's verizon and you want an iPhone then they're supposed to be getting them in the beginning of 2011...
However, if you go with droid and you like games then download angry birds...it's totally addicting...
At sea, heading to Lisbon, Portugal
I actually had a friend who bought a Droid (I think), tested it, and then decided within the 30 day limit he still preferred the iPhone. Even though, leading up to the test, and after, he complains about the dropped calls and various other things. But he's an Apple drone and is absolutely convinced there's nothing better than Apple - even though he regularly complains about his phone.
I'm going with an Incredible (Android) next week. And the rumors about Verizon getting an iPhone next year have yet to be substantiated. Every month there's a rumor about it and I have never heard it pan out into anything solid.
I have an iPhone. I'll never switch to another phone. Then again I am a Mac-only person. I don't have to be on windows at work, at home, ever and I like it that way. IMO, Apple products are intuitive, so simple a 5 year old can figure them out. No confusing error messages, slowness, freezing. Just ease of use.
My phone is fun
I love being on it. I get fantastic service and a really great monthly rate. Never drop calls. Didn't have to pay to transfer anything, and use the free gps on it that works really great.
None of the sites that I HAVE to visit on my phone have a flash-only site. Most have the option of seeing it in html which isn't a problem.
I've played with the Droid, my coworker has one, and I just think it's slow and bulky. The graphics aren't great, and it's just makes things more complicated.
Also, service is really relative. EVERYONE has a complaint about one or the other, so clearly its just personal preference and geography. Of course there are more towers in certain areas so some places are going to have better coverage.
Well Lia makes a good point - it is a lot of personal preference. You should try out both phones.
That being said, I have gotten consistently awesome customer service from Verizon Wireless, and had several terrible experiences with AT&T. Never a good interaction with someone there - but that was years ago, they could be better now.
Just for refernece purposes, DH spoke with verizon customer service last week and he was asking about his upgrade and she told him to wait til the iPhone comes out in January. I figured it must be true if they're telling people that but still, you never know.
I have a motorola droid and I cannot link my outlook email which really sucks but I can check it via the regular internet. I also don't like the touch screen because I often mute calls or hang up on people with my cheek when I'm holding the phone up to my face. Also a lot of people I speak to on a daily basis complained able not being able to hear me when I first switched phones, and still complain that mynew phone sucks. My feeling is that a phone should first and foremost work well as phone and in my opinion this one doesn't.
Other than that it's great, I can do basically everything on the internet and there are great apps a lot of which are free.
My mom has a Motorola Droid and I think the same thing about it. I can't hear her, she hangs up on me, etc. The Motorola Droids BLOW. I have an HTC Droid that I love, though. It's so much better, smaller, and more functional than the Motorola Droids, IMO.
I Love my iphone. I love the features and my husband keeps giving them to me as presents so there is some sentimental value.
That said...I miss flash (even though, as a designer, flash is becoming a bit obsolete).
I hate America's Worst Company Winner, Verizon, more than anything though. Thanks for sending me to collections when I was never even a customer. I had to contact their executive office to fix that one. Aholes.
