DH and I desperately need a vacuum and we plan on buying one this week hopefully. What do you recommend we get?
Re: Vacuums
If you can afford it, DYSON allllll the way. I don't know how I lived without mine. Seriously. Love it.
I have the animal one b/c we have two cats. I did a "test" when I first got mine and vacuumed with my old vacuum first and then the Dyson. I couldn't even believe what the Dyson picked up that the other didn't. It made me want to dry heave a little.
I have a dyson pet. But no pets just 2 kids :-) I love it!
He lies!
I would suggest going online to Macy's or Lowe's or anywhere that sells them and read the reviews and see what you think. Most of the negatives I read about Dyson were like, "The cord is too short, so I hate it and wish I never bought it." and stupid crap like that.
Dyson all the way!!! We love our's. We also have a Roomba which I can't live without! Thought DH was crazy when he wanted to get one...he was right...I was wrong. I am happy with both vacuums.
I would look at BB&B and use your coupons! They say they're excluded but let us use our coupon when we bought it.
I'm guessing the Animal is probably best for pets since that's what it's marketed for, but I don't have experience with any other models.
Ours literally picks up a whole new cat out of the carpet every time I vacuum. And it never clogs or loses suction. And I love that the ball lets it lay down to get under furniture so I don't always have to move the couch. And even when I use the attachments, it still has good suction, which for me is key for getting the lumps of cat hair out of the edges of the carpet/base board and for vacuuming the stairs.

We have a crazy-shedding pug-face and have the Dyson Slim. It's muti-surface (so it's also my "broom" in the kitchen) and it picks up the pet hair like crazy. We've never had the Animal, so I can't compare, but it'a a bit cheaper for the Slim if you're not ready to break the bank. And BTW, we LOVE LOVE LOVE it! Highly recommend!
This! We moved into a new apartment last Feb. No one had lived there before us. I'd vacuum each week. Old vacuum died and we bought the Bissel Pet Hair Eraser w/ HEPA filter. T and I stood there in shock looking at the canister. There was an entire cat of fur in there. And you couldn't see any of this cat hair on the carpet (light beige carpet, black and gray cat) before vacuuming.
