I found this article on Yahoo today and it reminded me of gold's post a few days ago in which her $500 Macy's gift card had a $0 balance on it. That one is included in this article.
Note to self: Pay attention everywhere I (and HH) use the credit/debit card!

Re: Gift Card Stripping Scams
HH and I don't use cash that much, so I'm constantly checking our bank account online. If somethings not right, I can usually catch it within a day or two.
That's pretty scary! Thanks for posting.
Ive only had fraud once and not known it. Wells Fargo caught the $1 Bed Bath and Beyond transaction and shut my card down. If it wasnt caught I'm not sure if I would have caught the $1 transaction - scary!
That's great that they caught that BBB charge! We've never had any problems with any of our credit cards or our debit cards. I check our account every single day because I'm just anal like that. We used to keep a cash envelope system in our house to pay cash for certain things and it worked well for us. But our house was broken into and all that cash was stolen (3 weeks before the wedding for those of you who weren't on the May Knottie board - it was AWFUL!).
So now I keep electronic "envelopes" (extra line items) in the checking account to manage how much we have available for specific categories of expenses. I worry about our debit cards a lot more than I used to. You just never know when someone is stealing your info.
