Re: PTOWN ?

  • I would guess logan (boston) but I guess you could fly into TF Green in RI and drive up.  I don't know how long that would take.  If you fly into logan and don't want to drive you could take the ferry.  S and I take the ferry more often than drive and I know our friend who have a place in ptown take the Ferry every week since here partner is there all summer (oh a teacher's life).  There is actually a water taxi that will bring you from logan to the ferry and back.  It is only 1.5 hrs which is great.  If you have never driven to p-town you feel like you are driving forever but it is so nice when you get there it is completly worth it.!

  • i'm with sam...i would fly into logan and take the ferry over.

when are you going? A and I just booked our yearly trip for next june!

  • We are going to go for our one year wedding anniversary in August. So we'll be theere August 7th to 11th.

I was going to book our flights this weekend. So I was just curious. I am a big planner, so this seems, a little early to some, but to me it just keeps everything in line!

  • The cheapest and BEST way to get there???

Fly to Logan in Boston and then take a cab to the fast ferry dock and go from there. Keep in mind there are two fast ferries. So, be sure to plan ahead which one you are going to when giving the cabbie directions.

Best place to stay is the Crowne Pointe Inn in Ptown.

We actually were married there in June :) hehe

  • Agree with pp - fly into Logan and take ferry.  If you do a search for Boston Provincetown ferry the site will come up.  Bear in mind that the ferry is like $70 (can't remember exact price - just remember thinking it was kind of a lot).  Though still probably cheaper than a rental car - the drive from Boston to PTown is about 2.5 - 3 hours.

If you flew into TF Green in Providence, RI - that would only be about a 1.5 hour drive to PTown.  You definitely don't need a car IN PTown, but if you wanted to exlpore other towns on the Cape, you'd want one.

  • Is Ptown dog friendly?

  • the ferry is 1.5 hrs dock to dock.  We like the ferry that leaves from the dock by the aquarium best.  I'll look up which one it is.  The boat is bigger and newer.  Both arrive at the same place in P-town.  Oh and p-town is super dog friendly.  There are dogs all over.  I wish my dog wasn't such a pain or we would take him all the time.  There are dogs at the outside restaurants on the beach in and out of shops.  Everyone has water bowls out for them.  It really is dog heaven.

Now you have me all wanting to go to p-town!  Perhaps we could arrange another east coast meet up.  Now I am off to look at hotel deals for a weekend getaway for the wife and I!

  • A Ptown gtg, could always be fun. My wife and all of you may leave me behind when it comes time to hit up the 'night scene'. Embarrassed

  • I've been wanting to go to PTown for a while now...

When is the best time of year to go?  I remember looking into it for our Honeymoon, but it was kinda dead in November...

I write sexy books. I read all the books. I love dresses & macarons.

  • The "best time" depends on your personality/desires.  The summer is high season and the best time for the social among us.  Most places havea 4 night minimum stay during the summer.  Almost every week has a 'theme' and fun activities.  Fall/Winter is the "best time" for people that want a really quiet get away. People that aren't looking for a lot of bar activity or performances.  I loved our winter trips because it was peaceful....but summer is sooooo much fun!!

  • I don't recommend any time between mid November and late May unless you REALLY want a QUIET vacation.

We were there last year for our honeymoon Oct 14-19 (or similar) and many of the restaurants and stores were closed for the season.  This limited our options quite a bit because PTown is small to begin with!

But yes, the summer is very busy, and just before and just after summer will be less busy, but more will be open than in the off-season.

  • IMO June is the best time to go...its considered "shoulder season" so everything is open but you'll find better rates on accomodations.  The weather is usually beautiful and its not too crazy and crowded. just enough to do and just quiet enough to really relax
  • I agree with pp that summer is crazy but I think for your first trip you should go and see it full blast then go back and see the quieter side another time.  S and I love going fro mem weekend.  there are way more girls there and it is just a blast to sit at an outdoor cafe and watch the scene.  We are not huge party gals so we go out for a few drinks and then head home.  Also the T dance is at 4 so you can get your party on early then chill.  I also have been in April and  it is quite nice although cold.  There are great walks on very quiet beaches and a nice peace about the place.  We even saw hump back whales while sitting on the beach it was amazing!

  • providence. ?it's clean, it's small (not too small) and is pretty much the most kickass airport in the nation. ?i used to live in mass and used it all the time...logan's too much for me. ?
