Cute kid stuff

Kristen mentioned her kids doing unbearably cute stuff in the weekend post, so I want to share a cute Miles thing:

He's been way into his little activity table lately.  He stands up at it and plays for a while.  This weekend we noticed that whenever he pushes a button on the activity table that plays music, he starts bopping along to it.  I have no idea how he knows to dance to music, but it's really funny.  He looks like he's a dj spinning tracks or something.

Now I want to hear other cute kid stories.

Re: Cute kid stuff

  • My friend's little girl bops to music too and it is hilarious to watch. Some people just got the rhythm yo.

What I don't understand is how you can tell these tales, but not provide video proof. It's just rude.

  • Ethan now thinks that this is the appropriate way to greet anything new (people included). Any time a family member would pick him up this weekend, he would try to chew on their shoulder, arm, or shirt. He gave himself a hicky on his arm.

He's also obsessed with his jumper now.  Kid wants to do nothing but jump jump jump for hours.

I'm going to have to concur with this statement. It's like you don't even know us.

  • Is he just standing there bopping, or slapping his behind too?  That would be really cute!  I think kids just understand they're supposed to move to music.

We're trying to teach Ian the sounds that animals make.  He hoots for a dog, and kept saying "moo" all weekend, including when he saw a penguin.  This morning when I dropped him off at daycare, he went to the box where they keep a bunch of rubber farm animals.  He brought a cow over to me, and said "moo."

  • Yeah, yeah.  I need to upload some video of all of this stuff.  I'm just a lazy horrible mom.

He only slaps his bare asss in the tub.  Not while making music at the activity table.

  • Hmmm, I don't know if I've ever seen a hooting dog before.  But penguins and cows are both black and white, so I could see the confusion as to whether penguins moo or not.

  • Maggie and Mike were coming home from the the pool and as they pulled in the drive, Mike said "home again, home again!' Maggie said "Jiggity jig! Grammy says that. Oh, Grammy."

Owen's been noticing the dogs. He dissolves into a puddle of delighted chuckles when one of them barks. It's the funniest thing ever, apparently.

Last night we were all on the bed and Maggie and Owen were holding hands. It was so sweet. Owen was kind of clawing at her palm and she was making an irritated face, but she left her hand there anyway.

  • I'll add some cuteness, and hopefully I'll follow up with video if I can get some good footage tonight.
Alex has started singing. He knows his alphabet, but I didn't realize he knew the song. We sing it all the time so I should give him some credit, but he started singing it out of nowhere this weekend. He prefers I sing it duet style with him, he's still pretty shy about it... But I'll follow up with video if he lets me record him.
  • I'm having a hard time getting video of anything because he always stops whatever cute thing he's doing to stop and stare at the camera.

  • Right now, Maggie is spitting off the side of her bed instead of napping. That is NOT cute.

  • The spitting thing enfuriates me, Kristen. I feel ya.
But, if I react at all, he thinks it's hilarious and does it even more.

The other not cute thing is when he takes mouthfuls of juice and lets it dribble/spits it out all down his shirt. I hate those moments. Hate.

What's the deal with that???   Ian does it with milk, but never with water.  Then he needs a change of clothes or else he smells like sour milk the rest of the day.  For what it's worth, he apparently only does it with me, never at daycare or with his dad.

  • So the talking has taken a turn for the better, Hezz?

Lila doesn't seem to know the word "want" everything is "try it?" So when music starts she'll hold out her hands and say "try it dance, mommy, daddy" then we all hold hands and dance in a circle.

  • Grant's newest cute thing is in the mornings I say, " Are you ready to go to school?"  and he nods yes, grabs his backpack and toddles to the door and tries to open it.
  • Yeah, I don't know if it was a basic "Boys are slower to talk" thing or if EI has helped some, but he's really exploding with vocab now.  He labels things constantly and we're finally getting some two word sentences out of him.

He's obsessed with the Droid commercials. Whenever one came on this weekend he would put on his robot voice and say, "Drrrooooiiiiiddddddd".

Also, Alex calls me Monny. I don't know why that kills me, but it does. Pete's even taken to calling me Monny now.

  • For the love of all things holy, please videotape Grant walking.  I misses heeem!
