Getting Carded?

I just realized that I haven't been carded in the past few months I purchased beer/alcohol.  What gives?  Getting carded used to make me feel young.  Can't the cashier/server just card me to make me feel young?

Re: Getting Carded?

  • Haha I always get carded.  Maybe now that I got my hair cut short I won't?

How many times has this happened?  I mean there are sometimes just crappy employees not doing their job.  Or maybe they see the ring and assume you're older than you look - even though that's not really a good assumption, based on the time I've spent on the Students board on TK.

  • Man, I wish that were the case for me!  I get carded EVERYWHERE.  I even got carded to redeem a frickin' lottery ticket a few months ago.  C'mon, dude, maybe I don't look 21, but I at least look 18!

H is 7 years older than me, so he never gets carded - until I order a drink and then they're like, "Uh yeeeeaaaah, I'm gonna need to see some IDs."  I always tease him and tell him it's not b/c he looks young, but because he's with me. I'm such a nice wife. :-P

  • I'm only 22 and I don't get carded anymore, I guess I look old Sad
  • I get carded for R-rated movies, so apparently I don't look 18 either.  I'm pretty sure I've told this story here (well, on the TK board) before, but a year or two ago I got asked if I was old enough to sit in an exit row on a plane.  You have to be FIFTEEN.

  • sometimes i dont get carded, but gerren always does (he looks 17).  poor guy.  last summer we went and saw a rated r movie and he was carded.  he was LIVID.  i just laughed and said thank you to the lady.

i generally have my ID out if i am buying booze so they dont even have to ask.  it just makes it easier for them and less awkward for them too.

Laura - I got that two years ago, too!  H and I were flying somewhere and she asked him if I was old enough to sit in the exit row!  Does she think he's my father or something?!  That was weeeird.

  • It's 50/50 for me. Most of the time I do because I look a lot younger than I actually am.

Maybe the cashier has seen you before?

  • Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't but then again, sometimes I just have it ready too because I hate being asked for it.

However, when my younger sister had her baby 2 months ago, and her hubby's great aunt came to visit, she was asking who the oldest and so forth was and pointed to me and said you're the youngest...you're still in high school, right? Not quite but thanks?

  • I'm in the minority. I hate getting carded. I am quite obviously over 21, and I don't like having to get my license out. Lazy. So?

  • We went to Applebee's and didn't get carded.  We go there at least once a week so they could have remembered us.  But we went to Nob Hill and didn't get carded.  Also when I went to BevMo and Safeway didn't get carded.  You could be right, they might see our rings and figured that since we're married that we are of age.

  • I haven't been carded in a while.  My sisters have been carded for R-rated movies as recently as a year ago.  They're 24 - and I am a little jealous of them for it.

Oh no, I hate it too.  I can't wait until it stops.  Sometimes if we're at dinner, I don't get a drink just because I don't feel like digging around in my bag.

  • I hate getting carded, and it happens to me every time. DH gets carded if he's with me, but not if he's alone. Usually if I'm buying alcohol, it's with a ton of other groceries, so I feel like I should look like an adult who's old enough, but apparently not. Oh well though, I'm not gonna be buying any for a while anyway.

    Twinsies, yet again Steph.

I also hate getting carded at Old C's.  They have a 110-beer tour that I've been doing over and over since I was 21.  The card they issue for it is almost older than some teenagers (and no longer in print).  And yet I STILL get carded.  Really?  Does is look like I'm cheating the system?  I'm 30 +, with a wicked old card, done the tour almost 3 times, and your CARDING me?

    /rant

ETA: I do LURVE pulling out the new DL though.  So shiny, pretty and new :)

  • Women don't card me but guys do? Odd. I just turned 21 back in june!
