Vacuum Recs?

Thought you ladies might be able to recommend a vacuum that would work well with dog hair and with both bare/carpetted floors? I recently purchased a Hoover Windtunnel vacuum and have been so disappointed.  It does a horrible job picking up on carpet so I think I will return it.

I'm not looking to spend $400 but I know I hear good things about the Dyson vacuums.  Anyone have recs for a vacuum that doesn't have the Dyson pricetag but would perform well with pet hair?  TIA

Re: Vacuum Recs?

  • Kenmore, from sears, I can't think of the offical name, but it's purple. LOL I LOVE IT! I use it for both hardwood and carpet and love it for both. I also like that you can buy the sear service package that goes with it. In case something goes wrong

**Consumer Reports rate it higher that Dyson, just an FYI**

  • Bissel Lift-Off Pet Hair Eraser. I have a Maine C00n cat (check google images, tons of long fur) and it works so well. He's red tabby with a white belly and my furniture is navy blue... you can imagine the cat hair carnage.

The lift-off feature is awesome for stairs and furniture. You push a button and the dust bucket, hose, and cord detaches from the main vacuum and you're free to roam without dragging anything behind you. I got mine at Target for ~$160.

  • The Bissell allergy-reducing one...we just got it and it is awesome.
  • I've heard good things about the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser and if I didn't own a Dyson, Bissell would be my 2nd choice in brand.  Fwiw, you can get a Dyson for under $400....BB&B allows you to use the 20% off coupons and Kohls usually has some good deals on them as well (with coupons too).  You don't have to necessarily get the big Animal vacuum.  It works great but my parents have a smaller one (with a dog and a cat that shed and different types of floors) and it works great!
