I'm so upset and irritated this morning.
K and I are spoiled, and the company that we work for does a shutdown every year during the week between Christmas and New Year's. We use the break to travel b/c our families live 5.5 and 9 hours away from us.
I just found out this morning that K has to work not only Thanksgiving Day and the entire weekend after, but Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and the entire week of shutdown after - with no compensation b/c he's a salaried employee. So while all of his hourly associates are getting paid 3X to come in on the holidays, he's getting nothing for it.
So my options for the holidays this year are to travel home by myself and leave my H here alone, or stay here with him and be by myself every day while he's at work for 12+ hours. And I know I'm going to get pressure from both ends of it - whether anyone intends to make me feel that way or not. Either option sucks.
I always, always look forward to Thanksgiving so much. It's my favorite holiday, and now I just want to cry thinking about it. WWYD in my situation?
Re: Vent - Spending the Holidays Alone
I love my puppy ... and my husband, I swear!
^ I like that idea! I know its not quite the same but for a couple of years my family would do Thanks-Christmas in October because two of my aunts would move down to FL every winter.
We're probably going to celebrate Thanksgiving a week early with my family this year since I want to cook.
Married / The Cookaholic Wife
It's a good idea - and we've done that before, but because of everyone living so far away and everyone's work schedules, I don't think it's going to work out this year. K and I already have all of our vacation time spent on upcoming trips, K works most weekends, and my mom used all of her vacation for our wedding and can't travel. :-( It sucks with the travel factor and evvvveryone's ridiculous schedules factored in.
I want to be a 6yo again and not have to think about anything, but ZOMG SANTA'S COMINGGGGG!!! :-)This, or are there any post-holiday parties? My family has a polyanna party a week or two following Christmas, so even if I don't get to spend Christmas with them, I'm able to celebrate & see them at the party.
I don't blame you for being upset - it's your first Holiday season married and ofcourse you want to spend them together + with your family!

hdjfks;dkfjad I FVCKING HATE TN!! every time i put a lot of effort and thought into a long post, it WONT LET ME POST IT! so here i go, round friggin two:
sunshine, i am so so so sorry about this. it really sucks. here are the two things i would do:
-spend thanksgiving with your family. travel there and enjoy the day with them bc you love it so much and it is a great holiday to be with fam. then spend christmas week at home with the hubs.
-dont go home to the fam and just spend all of the upcoming holidays at home with the hubs. create new traditions, spend the days doing all the stuff YOU want (gym, shopping, reading, baths, sleeping!), or invite any friends over for the holidays that will not be traveling. it was the best part of living in CA--creating our own thanksgiving with our friends.
i feel your pain, sister! gerren works in the ski industry. thus, for the rest of our lives (and for the last 5 years) gerren has had to work christmas and new years. it sucks. i spend all day alone just thinking about when it is appropriate to start drinking and cooking. i am hoping he has it off this year, but i am not holding my breath.

Wah. I would have to have a pity party and cry for a little bit. How disappointing. It really sucks and I'm sorry.
I think I would travel and be with my family at Thanksgiving, and spend Christmas at home with my husband. Do you have friends in the area you can hang with while he's working? Our friends have always spent holidays with us so I'm positive your friends would love to have you with them.
