This new facebook quiz rubs me the wrong way

The Autism Spectrum Quotient, or AQ, is a questionnaire consisting of fifty questions, it aims to investigate whether adults of normal intelligence have symptoms of autism or one of the other autism spectrum conditions.

I dunno. It seems insensitive or something. Am I being overly uptight?

Re: This new facebook quiz rubs me the wrong way

  • I saw that this morning and tried to hide it.  I don't like it.
  • I don't know about insensitive but it seems likely to create a bunch of freaking out yahoos claiming to be autistic.

  • Everybody has autism. YAY!

    This!!

I kind of want to take it for sh!ts 'n grins, but it's not worth loading my computer up with cookies or spyware or whatever.

  • Everybody has autism.  Don't even bother getting tested.

Ditto this. I gave a big eyebrow raise at how many of my FB friends have taken it. I'm guessing most are just out of curiosity, like Fent said, but it still seems odd.

Yet I'm tempted to take it just to see WTF it's about and what it asks.

  • I saw that too. I wondered what kind of moron thinks they have autism based on a fb quiz.
  • You can diagnose ADD by taking an internets quiz.  Why not autism?

My thoughts exactly.  Morris self-diagnosed her adult ADD that way, this is the next logical step.

  • I think the test for ADD is whether you take an online quiz to see if you have ADD.  As soon as you click the link, it says, "Question 1, are you taking an internet test to see if you have ADD?   Option A: Yes, and you have ADD, Option B: All of the Above."

  • I took the online ADD test and it said nope, you don't have ADD'

Mr. Mod took it and it said it was very likely he did. He was diagnosed, even before that, with ADD. His docs say it is an almost textbook case.

  • You get diagnosed with ADD if you can't complete the test.

  • I didn't want to use the Facebook app but I did find another autism spectrum quiz on another website (I think it was Wired, maybe) and took it. I was curious.

I saw that too and the questions were bizarre. "Do you like to do things repeatedly?" Um, what things?

  • It asked that question twice. I suspect the test writer likes to write things repeatedly and thus has autism.

  • One of my FB "friends" took this quiz and then posted she wondered how her son would score. He has autism.

She should probably not take an IQ test. Ever.
