professional tile and grout cleaning

Has anyone had their tile and grout cleaned?  We just moved into a new house and the tile grout is funk nasty. We've tried cleaning it and our house cleaner tried cleaning it and said it really needed to be professionally done.  Has anyone done this? Is it worth the cost and do they really get it clean?

TIA!

  • Have you tired Magic Eraser? Our grout was super dirty and we used a ME and it really worked! I know people who have had their grout pro-done and they loved the result-not sure about the cost.

We've tried everything! It seems like there is stuff embedded in the grout.  I'm worried about even a professional getting it clean :/

  • I have seen professional jobs on very old tile where the tile appeared to be clean and a light olive green color. Once it was done turns out the tile was actually peach in color.

If you can afford it....do it. Just make sure they are a reputable company.

  • Also try and seal it or see if the company can use a sealer on the grout to get it to stay clean.
  • Def. get it sealed if it isn't.
  • I'd say go for it. Although it could be past the point of no return and you'd have to replace the grout -yikes- but the professionals should be able to tell you whether or not its salvageable.
  • I have had it done twice in four years.  I'd do a little research to make sure you get a good deal from a company that does a good job.  The first time, my ex-husband found a company that did the job for $80 (really low) and they did a great job.  I couldn't find their info, so the second time I asked a friend for a rec. and paid about $200.  The first company actuall did a better job.  In my opinion the sealing didn't make a difference at all.
