Dracula

I just watched the end of Bram Stoker's Dracula, the one with Keanu and Winona, and man.  For one thing, I didn't even realize Anthony Hopkins was in it (really, Mr. Hopkins?  You can do better.)  But I looooved this movie when I was younger (it's one of my all-time fave books) and now...jaysus.  The acting is just terrible.  How did I not notice this?  I would expect Keanu to stink up the place, but even Winona is Cheesy McCheeserton when she's turning into a vampire.  Blargh.  I no longer trust my 10-year old assessment of cinema.

  • I admit, I still love the movie.  But if I saw it for the first time today, I'm not sure if I would.  I like bad movies, but I feel like this one isn't quite bad enough to fall into that category.

Also, there is a lot of sexual innuendo in it, which totally went over my head when I was younger.  I wonder why I was allowed to watch it.

  • I think a lot of those statements would apply to a lot of movies made years ago.  That's what separate the classics from the phenoms.  Try watching Matrix 2 or Blair Witch.

  • Yeah I hated both of those movies when they came out, though.

But I know what you mean :)
