Knottie (Nestie?) Vibes

DH just got the title to his truck switched to his name and the registration switched from NC to KY tags on Thursday.  He was driving to work this morning and remembered that he had forgotten his breakfast at home.  He got turned around in an access road and didn't see the car coming in the other direction.  The truck is done for and DH is beating himself up over it.

We've been out one vehicle since late August since the truck's tags were out of date.  So I drove H to work everyday and picked him up in the evenings.  I was so glad I didn't have to do that anymore.

Now we're officially going to be a 1 car family because we can't afford to get even a used car.  And such is life.  Bummer.

Re: Knottie (Nestie?) Vibes

  • Aw, that sucks!  It sounds like your H is doing alright though, which is excellent.

I can commiserate on the 1 car thing.  I sold my car when I moved to San Diego, so we are a 1 car family with just H's car.  H used to drive it, and I took the bus, but my job changed around this year so now I use the car.  (We made the switch right after the wedding, so H loves to joke about how I married him so I could take the car.)  It is a pain having to coordinate times, drop him off and pick him up, etc. And I'm sure it's worse for him.  Bummer for you guys!

  • Yikes!  I'm so glad your H did not get hurt.  That must have been scary.

We are also down to 1 car now.  When DH started grad school this fall we sold his car to his parents because we couldn't afford it anymore, they were looking for a new used car, and DH takes public transportation to school.  We are still getting used to being a 1 car family too.

Good luck and vibes to you.

  • I told DH that many other people are 1 car families and that it's not a big deal.  Honestly, I'd almost rather us sell the truck for scraps and take whatever money we get from that and put it in our savings accounts for a house.  We've lived with one car from late August to just last week and while it was sometimes a pain in the butt, it worked.

That's a good idea. DH's old car barely run so we never used it. We sold it to a scrap yard and used the extra cash for our honeymoon. It wasn't much, but a little extra money and no crappy car taking up space- well, you can't beat that.

    Glad your H is okay.

  • I'm so sorry to hear that! I'm glad that your H wasn't injured. Hang in there, hopefully things will turn up.

  • Glad your H is ok!  I can sympthize.  Dh's car broke down for good last January and we struggled through until October 1st borrowing my step mom's car only when we really needed to (not easy to do somewhere there is no public transporation!).  We were able to save enough in those 10 months to add to our wedding gift money and buy DH a new Tahoe that we never could of afforded otherwise (we already own a home).  DH is so proud driving his new car every day now that those few hard months were very worth it!
  • Sorry hun :-(  V glad H isn't hurt tho...and think of the good you're doing the environment by sharing a car!

Our children's children's kids will be grateful! :-)
