Who here knits?

Somebody does right? lol.

Be honest, how difficult would this pattern be for somebody who can't knit? yes, I'm serious, I love this scarf.  Rate the difficulty on a scale of 1-10.

Re: Who here knits?

  • Hi there,

So, this is a rather challenging pattern if you don't knit at all.  First, K1P1 (knit 1, pearl 1) is one of the slowest stitches you can do, and making cables is a little bit of challenge too.  I think it would be a good 2nd or 3rd project.  If you want to do it, I'd suggest getting some plain yarn and needles (you could even do it in the sizes for the pattern) and practice straight knitting, then straight pearling, then K1P1.  Don't worry about actually making anything, but just work on your tension, and consistency.  It will be well worth your time.  What tends to happen with new knitters, is you start with holding the yarn and needles really tight, and as you get better/more practiced, you start knitting "looser," and your knitting ends up being shaped like this /.

That was probably way more information than you were looking for!  Let me know if I can provide more info!

    Amy

  • p.s. It is a BEAUTIFUL scarf!!
  • I like that pattern a lot! It looks like a challenge to me, but I am a very novice knitter.  I agree that if you practiced on some cheap-o yarn, it might not be a bad pattern to follow.  It looks like the key is to find yarn that isn't too thick.
  • Thanks Amies!!  Maybe I'll finish up my current sewing projects and try knitting, I want that scarf.

If you wanted additional practice, just let me know.  I need a need a new winter scarf.  ::coughs::

  • I agree with AmyLR, that looks like a hefty project for a first timer. I love doing cables, but i tried them after a few projects.

But it is a very nice scarf!!

  • Well if anybody else wants to try it in the meantime, I'm more than willing to accept screwups. Wink

  • I sent this to my mom and she told me if I buy the yarn, she'll knit this for me.  Ha!
