Hi Everyone!
I cant believe the holidays are already on their way. How do you typically spend them? Any awesome traditions you have?
As for us - I have an extremely small family. My mom passed 7 years ago, so since then - the family kind of blew away into the winds and I do my own thing. My husband's family is THE DEVIL. So, we do not spend the holidays with them. *Tried it, it was HORRIFIC.
So, typically - I cook HUGE on the holidays - and its just he and I. LOL
This year will be different, we'll have Thanksgiving at my boss's house - *she's like my adopted mom, seriously. We're attached at the hip, she even came to our destination wedding in Mexico. I love her.
Christmas, no idea what we're doing.
Its our first holiday as a married couple, so looking forward to them!
How about you?
Re: The Holidays are Fast Upon us! Traditions?
Last year thanksgiving, I was sick as a dog and in the middle of renovations so we did nothing. This year we will be fresh from our vacation so I may just bake a chicken and cook some stuff just for the hubs and I. I have work the next day (DH doesn't) so I am not gonna go crazy.
Christmas - this will be our 1st Christmas with a complete home (well nearly complete) and I am thinking about hosting the family (it's all DH's family since my family lives in the Caribbean). I haven't thought it out but I was thinking lots of cooking, some type of gift exchange, a real tree (I have never ever had a real tree). I hope it comes through.

We alternate splitting Thanksgiving and Christmas between NY and Cali (where my DH is from). This year, we have Thanksgiving here, so we will do what we always do, which is go to my cousin's in CT. It will be fun because my cousin just had a baby two weeks after me (girl also) so it will be the babies' first holiday together.
Christmas we will be in California, Christmas eve with my FIL's family, Christmas day with my MIL's family. We have "mock Christmas" in NY the week before, where we will do the traditional Christmas eve fish dinner. It is insane the amount of food we have at that!
This year, we are going Thanksgiving solo. It's too expensive to visit the IL's in SC. My mom has been caring for my sick grandmother quite a bit so I've been playing second fiddle with time with her. She said she was too stressed to make plans. So H and I are going to have dinner here, probably at a restaurant. Then spend the weekend in Atlantic City (see related post).
Christmas we've done together with both families (when they lived in the same town). Since we grew up in the same town, our parents were friendly and liked spending time together too. Normally, we did traditional Christmas Eve at my mom's, and Christmas Day at H's parents'. But now we kind of have to decide where to go. Boo! Again, I doubt I will spend it with my mom. I think we are going to Baltimore this year since my BIL lives there. The IL's are driving up from SC. I might have to take a day or two after Xmas to hang with my mom. I'm kind of going through mommy withdrawal.
our only tradition is that we have thanksgiving here and my mom comes from pennsylvania for that. for christmas, we go there, because both my parents are there, as are my MIL and BIL. (we usually don't see FIL, who lives in LI, until after the new year.)
we do have a tradition of getting a tree on a friday after work, and then getting hammered on wine and whiskey while decorating it. we also play hooky from work together one day in december and do a bunch of our shopping.
