Re: XP: anyone familiar w/ wilkesboro?
It's my hometown and where I'm living right now.
I'm running on the greenway. It isn't super long (only about 1.5 mi one way), but there are three different places where you can getoff the trail and into downtown and make a loop back onto the greenway.
There is also a track at the community college, but it's just a loop. It might get kind of boring for such a long run and there are a lot of geese there. I tend to avoid it b/c the geese poop all over one part of the track and you can't avoid it. It'll do in a pinch though.
Village Inn Pizza is my favorite. It's kind of a dive, but they have the best pizza in town. For BBQ there is Tipton's and the Brushy Mountain Smoke House (they also have really good, homemade ice cream). Talia's on Main St. N.Wilkesboro is good for coffee and they have a small menu. I love their chicken salad.
Thanks!!
Are there sidewalks from the community college into N. Wilkesboro (Main St.)? I was looking on Google maps last night and couldn't see... I saw the greenway but since I'm going to be running mostly in the dark, I'm not all that comfortable running there. Looks nice though!
Thanks for the food recs, they're much needed and appreciated!
There aren't sidewalks all the way to downtown. There are a couple of miles between there and downtown without sidewalks. It isn't a terribly busy stretch of road, especially in the evening, but I hesitate to say you'd be ok. Drivers in Wilkes can be really terrible. I don't know if I'd take the chance, but that's just me. I do see people jogging there pretty regularly.
There are sidewalks around the college and they continue through some of the smaller streets around there. You could probably get your runs in around there and not have to go all the way to down town.
Let me know if you need anything else.
