ProActiv..

Just a question..Do any of you use ProActiv? If so, how do you like it? Is it worth trying?

Ever since I got off of my birth control in April, my hormones have gone haywire and I have broken out insanely all around my chin, neck and around my face..I've never had acne like this before so this is all new to me and a bit painful, even. I feel like a teenager hitting puberty!

If you don't use ProActiv and use something else that really works, I'd appreciate your recommendations!

Re: ProActiv..

  • I've only heard good reviews, I'm sure there are some people it doesn't work for. You can't use it while pregnant, just so you know.

  • I've heard it works great. You go through a 2 week phase (as with all face washes of this type) where your skin will be red and splotchy - getting used to the medicine. I would suggest getting an oil-free face wash or something similar and wash 2-3 times a day. ProActiv is expensive. This acne thing may be temporary for you since you just got off BC.

Totally didn't know this! For some reason I thought it didn't contain the things that acutane and all the others did. Good to know! Thanks for sharing!

I hope you're right because this is just unbelievable! I'm almost embarassed to go out in public without makeup on which makes the acne even worse, I'm sure. Do you know of any good oil free cleansers or is there one in particular you use?
  • Check out Lush and Arbonne

  • Will do! Thanks for the recs!
  • I just switched from Neutrogena to Aveeno. However, I've found that bars of soap work just as well. I also use a daily face scrub. My skin still isn't perfect, but it's maintainable.

I find that this is critical. I used to use a fancy schmancy one, but have recently switched to St Ives and I can't tell the difference in my skin. So I'm all about a $7 bottle. It may be best to try drugstore brands first to save some $$, then if they don't work move up in price. Make sure you use a good moisturizer too, even down there. When you are stripping away the dirt and oils you need to replace the moisture.

  • I use cetaphil..

It works great! I used to have breakouts like crazy and this keeps them away. my dermatologist recommended it years ago and i think it works like a charm! Its at any store!! Don't get the gentle skin formula, it doesnt feel like there is any actual cleanser in it!

I also use Aveeno daily moisturizer.. clear complexion!

    Hope that helps!

  • Thank y'all so much! I'm going to try the Aveeno products for sure. Just haven't been able to get to Walmart. I was using Biore Foaming Cleanser and I think it was stripping too much from my skin and maybe causing it to over produce necessary oils. I do moisturize daily..I use Aveda's Tourmaline Charged Moisturizer with SPF..(only have it because when I worked for Paris Parker, I got all Aveda products half off--otherwise I wouldn't own anything Aveda lol)...And going to definitely look into a good scrub..Thanks again!!
