Appetizers that make people worship you

What is your favorite app recipe to make people swoon? I have to ask for the following reasons:

1. I am having guests over tonight

2. I could live off of appetizers. It's usually my favorite part of weddings...I'm a sicko.

 3. I was inspired by the post "life changing" from earlier :)

Mine is stuffed mushrooms (made with stovetop, italian sausage, parm, and garlic!)

readyyyyy go!

September 25, 2010!

Re: Appetizers that make people worship you

  • I love apps too.

Weirdly, I make a salsa that people request all.the.time.  I also make mini sausage quiches and seafood stuffed mushrooms that are to die for.  Other than that, I buy the stuff at Trader Joe's because its fantastic and much easier.  The caramelized onion and feta pastry things are my fave, but they have other really amazing stuff.

  • Here are my most requested apps:

    Buffalo Chicken dip

    8oz softened cream cheese

    1/2C franks buffalo wing sauce

    1/2C ranch dressing

    1/2C shredded mozzarella

2C diced Perdue cooked chicken strips (can also use canned chicken)

Mix all together and microwave on high for 5 minutes until hot. Stir halfway through cooking. At a party, keep dip hot in a small crock pot or fondue pot.

    Veggie Pizzas

    1 pkg crescent rolls

1 8 oz light cream cheese, softened

    1/3C mayo

    ? tsp dill weed

    1 tsp garlic powder

    ? tsp minced onion

    Shredded cheese

Sliced black olives, chopped tomato/green onion/peppers

Grease 9x13 pan. Pat crescent rolls to fit form. Bake 15 minutes and cool. In bowl, mix 2-6. Beat until smooth, spread over cooled dough. Top with minced veggie toppings and shredded cheese. Refrigerate at least 2 hours or overnight. Other veggies may be added or substituted.

Mushrooms Stuffed with Brie (this is PW's but she uses fontina)

White button mushrooms washed and stems removed

    4 cloves garlic, minced

    1/4C flat leaf parsley, chopped

4-5 green onions, sliced (up to middle of dark green part)

    Splash of white wine (optional)

    1 wedge of brie

    Preheat oven to 350.

Melt butter in large saucepan. Add mushroom caps and toss to coat in butter. Sprinkle lightly with salt and cook for 1 minute. Remove mushrooms and place in baking dish.

In same saucepan add garlic, parsley, green onions. Sprinkle very lightly with salt and splash in wine if using. Stir around until wine evaporates, about 1 minute. Remove from heat.

Cut rind off of brie wedge, then cut pieces of brie to fit each mushroom cap. Place inside, lightly pressing to anchor each piece of brie. Top mushrooms with parsley/garlic mixture.

Place into oven for 15 min or until brie is melted. Allow to cool slightly.

    Pepperoni Dip

? lb pepperoni, sliced (I buy pre-sliced bag and use ? of the package)

1 10.75 oz can cream of mushroom soup

    1 package light cream cheese

Preheat oven to 350. Chop pepperoni into small pieces. Mix soup and cream cheese. Stir in pepperoni. Put in medium sized baking dish and bake 25 minutes or until lightly browned.

    Serve with wheat thins.

    Corn dip

2 cans mexi or fiesta corn

    1C sour cream

    1C mayo

    2C shredded cheddar

    1/2C chopped green onions

    1 can chopped green chiles

    1/2TSP salt

    1/4TSP pepper

    1/8TSP garlic powder

    1/2TSP cumin

    2 whole chopped jalapenos (optional)

Mix together and chill. Serve with fritos, tortilla chips or wheat thins.

  • The mushrooms stuffed with Brie sound killer.  I love buffalo chicken dip, too, but other people always make it so I let them bring it instead :)

  • I also really like apps. Guess we're all not weird.

Mine are crab dip, jalapeno poppers, crab and cheese stuffed mushrooms, and fruit salsa with cinnamon chips.

  • here's another one:

-get tostitos scoops and lay out as many as you can on a baking sheet

    -fill it with salsa

    -then sprinkle cheese

-bake until the cheese is melted

def do this 5 mins before guests arrive bc the salsa can make the scoops soggy.

  • i also love aps.  i also was going to suggest p.dubs brie stuffed shrooms.  but here i smy go to fave and it is always consumed right away.

    artichoke dip:

    2 cans artichoke hearts, drained

    1 box of cream cheese

1 large handful of mozz cheese

1 large handful of parm cheese

    1/2 cu. of mayo

    3 large cloves of garlic

    salt and pepper

put all of those ingredients in a food processor.  combine until smooth.  put in an oven safe dish and bake at 350 until golden on top or bubbly.  usually about 20 minutes. OR if you have a mini dip crock pot, you can put the ingredients all in there and let them heat up.  serve with crackers or crusty bread.  SO  good.

  • Lil smokies.  I take the Hillshire farms been lil smokies.  Wrap them in bacon.  Bake them at 375 or 400 about 20 minutes until bacon is cooked.  Then sprinkle with brown sugar for 5-10 so the brown sugar gets all carmelly.  Then put toothpicks in them.  They are so good and always gone in a few minutes.

  • yummy...I could go for all of these.

I like asparagus rolled in mozarella and procuitto (you bake it so it gets all warm gooey but crunchy at the same time.

I also get a look of requests for tuna, cheese or chicken in Choux pastry (puffs).

I like the smokies too!  but I roll them in puff pasty and make pig sin blankets.  Those don't last long in my house.

  • I know this won't help now, but it's a super-easy app or snack you can make any time. I cut mozzarella sticks in half and roll up a half stick inside crescent rolls, then follow the normal baking directions. Serve it with pizza or spaghetti sauce. So yummy!
