Is there any kind of powder to sprinkle on the carpet that you can vacuum up & it cleans/disinfects the carpet? I need it to be baby & pet safe.
My husband & I just bought a house & the carpet is not new but its not very old & its not dirty (I think maybe the sellers had it cleaned once the place was empty). I just want it to be clean for when we move in with our new baby & 2 dogs & 2 cats.
I'm trying to avoid having them steam cleaned to save money if I can.
A picture is worth a thousand words. I'd bet money your words are ignorant.
Re: Dry Carpet Cleaner?
I wouldn't use a powder. I used to sprinkle baking soda and sometimes that carpet deodorizer stuff on my floors and it clogged up the ducts in my vacuum. I had to get a new one because it wouldn't suck up anything anymore...I agree with trying the rug doctor.
Also, sometimes to disinfect after we've been sick or something, I mist Lysol or vinegar solution on the carpet. I don't know if it does anything since I don't saturate it, but hopefully it kills some of the germs!
My steam mop came with a tray that attaches to it and you run it across the carpet and it is supposed to sanitize it. It doesn't actually clean it, but it is supposed to sanitize. I have a Haan. It does actually heat the water all the way to 212 unlike some other steam mops. It cost me about $100 and sounds like it might be something you could use.
The carpet powders/ baking soda are good for odor but nothing else IME. Hope that helps.
