QOTD

Do you do a theme on your Christmas tree? If so, do you change it every year?

Re: QOTD

  • Nope!  I like my tree to be homey and eclectic (I have a Darth Vader ornament).

We'll just not tell H about this little fact, m'kay?

  • We do red and gold ornaments/trim. This is only the second year that we'll have a tree, and we probably won't change because we don't really have a lot of storage for different themes.

ETA: I'm lucky my Gordie Howe/Red Wings ornament goes so well. :D

This exactly, minus the Darth Vader ornament. Wink Everything on our tree is random and a lot of the ornaments have special meaning. We buy a new one each year and we buy one everywhere we travel. I love love our tree like that and wouldn't have it any other way. It's so fun pulling the ornaments out each year and having memories attached to them.

    I absolutely love Christmas ornaments.

  • We try to stick with red and silver on the tree, but then we throw in all of our own personal ornaments, too. We got one the year we got engaged, when we moved in our house, etc. I love having things on the tree to bring back memories. I also have a sick obsession with snoopy ornaments, so there are probably 30 or so of those on the tree. DH likes penguins, so that makes up the other part of the tree. I refuse to store any more than 2 boxes for Christmas decorations.

  • Nope.  Ours is totally random.  My mom sent me all of my childhood ornaments a few years back, so I have some really old and wacky things to put on there.  I think there may be a couple of Strawberry Shortcake, Smurfs, and My Little Pony decorations in there.

  • Nope.  Our tree is random and nostalgic.  I have ornaments from when I was little, plus lots of homemade ornaments the girls made in school.  I try to accumulate a couple new 'special' ones every year.  I love to unpack all of the ornaments and decorations and remember why they're special as we hang them.

  • Nope, although that is subject to change this year since we are doing TWO trees.

My grandmother gave me (all of her grandkids) a Hallmark ornament each year until we turned 18.  I have collected a ton of Christmas decorations and they almost all have sentimental value.  I wouldn't trade my eclectic tree for the world.

That said, I love theme trees and since we have two trees (I made Jim buy one the first year we were dating) I may do the second one up that way.  The two years that it was up in his old place, it was just white lights and ribbon garland, so I may be able to change that up without too much expense this year.  I'll have to see what is in the store that catches my eye.

  • We don't have our own tree yet. :(

My parents' tree didn't have a theme. They just had a few sets of ornaments that they reused every year. When we get our own tree I'm sure it'll be pretty random but I will try to make it look somewhat coordinated.

  • No Christmas trees for this gal :(  I once asked my parents if we could have a Hannukah Bush.  Let's just say that didn't go over so well.  But I did get 8 days of presents, so I guess that makes up for it.

  • We have two semi themes.  We each have the ornaments from each year of our lives.  Both our families bought an ornament for each child every year.  Now we have a tree of ornaments from 1977 on.  :)

The other thing we have done is bought a snowflake ornament for each year we have been together:

  • we have two trees (overkill). the real tree is in our living room and there is no theme - just all the ornaments we have accumulated from our lives. we have an artificial tree that we put in the finished part of our basement, and that is all Ohio State stuff (shocking). Since the basement is the "man cave", with the projector where we watch all sporting events, it kind of makes sense. or at least I'm trying to tell myself that.

  • onlynire - I LOVE that ornament

Our tree doesn't really have a theme but we but have tons of childhood ornaments that we use to decorate.  My Mom used to work at Hallmark so I have lots of really nice ornaments.

  • Mine is so random but I only do a tree every other year. On the years we go to Ohio for Christmas to see my family there is no point in the tree. Maybe now that we will have the perfect window I will put more effort into the tree.
  • I like to have a theme on my since my mom would always have one. Last year I had all turquoise with silver. This year I just plan on doing all different colors.

  • Our main tree is semi-themed. It's mostly red and gold. This wasn't deliberate, we just didn't have many ornaments and I was able to buy a few really large containers of ornaments on sale one year after Christmas. They were mainly red and gold.

Our second tree is similar to sreihing's. It's in the man cave, but is mostly orange and blue. It has our Illini, Bears and Cubs ornaments. And, sreihing, it totally makes sense to me.

  • Our tree is random. We do try and get an ornament from all the places we have traveled together. It's kind of cool because it brings back the memories of our trips.  We're upgrading our tree this year and getting a bigger one so we'll see how it goes. I'll have to buy more stuff to decorate it.

  • My tree is pretty bright and bold. I did a mardi gras theme tree a few years back and kept all the ornaments I colored.

A friend told me once it looked like the OPI nail polish line threw up on my tree. I took it as a compliment since that's exactly how I colored my ornaments. Big Smile

  • Gibson usually decorates the tree. This year I'll let Izaac help. Never really a theme, they just throw everything we have somewhere on the tree. The top half is usually pretty bare.

you made me feel so much better - i felt a little silly typing it out. it really is impressive once you see it, but sounds a bit "rabid fan" on the screen. must be a Big Ten thing :)

My dad just sent me a mini Red Sox Christmas tree. It came with all Red Sox ornaments and a string of Sox pennants to wrap around it. I was so excited when it came in the mail!
