Do you remember my post *ETA cute niece story!*

aaaages ago, about my cousin whose gf was pregnant with twins?  I was saying how it was their second pregnancy, she miscarried at five months with her first one?

Well, they just lost this one too.  They are devastated, and I'm just sick for them.  Granted, their situation doesn't make the most sense to me (they keep trying to have kids when neither of them have great jobs/they aren't married or even engaged/their living situation is a bit bizarre) but they are both really good people and any children they have will be SO loved.  Plus they have really fantastic and supportive families who are behind them 100%.

I just can't believe that this is happening to them.  I mean...I know that miscarriages aren't uncommon, but isn't it weird that she keeps having them so late?  I always thought that they were pretty common in the first trimester, but after that things are a lot more stable...so now this is 3 babies she has lost in later pregnancy.  I think she is really really depressed right now (understandably so) and her FB posts have been breaking my heart.

  • Oh no!!!  That's horrible!!!  I'd be completely devastated!!

I think it's a lot less likely to miscarry after the first tri.  That's why people sometimes wait to announce a pregnacy until after then.

  • That's heartbreaking. :( I'll be praying for them.
  • OMG thats awful! My heart is breaking for themSad. I don't know if I could handle having a miscarriage, I pray that I'll never have to find out. I'll pray for your cousin and his gf!

  • I'm so so sorry to hear that J. My T&Ps go out to them.

I have a friend with a similar pregnancy situation. She had like 8 miscarriages..most after the first tri. She just had her son 2 weeks ago and was born about 10 weeks early but he's doing well in the hospital now. I cant imagine the feeling of being able to get pregnant just fine but then losing the baby time after time.

  • so sorry to hear that J.  Your family is in my thoughts. :(

  • That is so sad! I will be praying for them. So horrible to lose a baby. There are a lot of people out there in the blogging world that lose their babies very late in pregnancy. Its more common than I realized until I started reading baby loss blogs. There is a huge blogging community out there. Hopefully they figure out what is going on that their are having Rainbow babies instead of carrying them to term.
  • I'm like the unhappy miscarriage poster.  First my sister, now this.

But actually, what's really weird is that cousin's gf's first miscarriage happened when my sister was pregnant with my niece.  My niece is 18 months old now, so that's how old cousin's baby would have been (they were at the same point in their pregnancy when cousin's gf lost it).

And then just weeks after my sister lost hers this time, so does cousin's gf.

I just realized that they keep getting pregnant at the same time...

  • =(  That's devastating.  No matter how off their life situation may be to anyone on the outside, it's never something that you would ever wish upon them.

I have a friend who miscarried at 7 months late in 2008.  She's now super preggo and due in December.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed for her.

I can't imagine losing a child that you've already started making serious plans for (names, nursery, etc).  The women that are able to pull through it are absolutely amazing and inspirational.

T&P to your family.  How's your sister doing by the way?

  • That's so sad. I can't imagine how hard it would be to go through that once, let alone twice. Hope they're ok.
  • So sad! The family I babysit for has 2 kids (ages 5 & 3). They were trying for another and had 2 miscarriages in a row recently.  It's been so depressing to talk to the mom about it (I babysit basically every weekend so I'm practically family). :(

I think she's trying her hardest not to think about it.  My littlest niece (18 months) calls me every couple of days*, and when she's done talking, my sister gets on the phone and I can hear a bit of sadness in her voice, but she is basically just trying to move on.  There is a lot to keep her busy between work (she is an orthodontist and owns her own business) and her three little ones.  They're planning a trip this weekend to take the kids to see The Wiggles, so I think they're just doing lots to keep them entertained and their minds off of everything.

*Yes, my 18 month old niece calls me.  She asks her mom if she can call her "Aunt J" and presses the speed dial button that's programmed with my number.  My sister then puts me on speakerphone because niece can't quite hold the phone in a way that allows her to talk AND listen at the same time.

She talks FOREVER and it's quite hilarious.  Last night she was telling me how she went to a Halloween party dressed as Nemo, and her brother was a pirate, and her sister was a pirate princess.  And how her daddy "bwoke the 'moke 'tector (smoke detector) cuz it was too loud".  (It was beeping because the batteries were low so he took it down...apparently she was horrified that he broke it, it's why she wanted to call me!  haha)

  • Ok... that's stinkin cute.  My niece used to ask my SIL if she could call me all the time because she would want to tell me about something that happened at school or the store. I love it.  Now she's 6 and just tells me REEEEEALLLY long stories.  She also tends to exaggerate... A LOT.

  • How heartbreaking for your cousin and his gf! My mom miscarried before my sister and never has been the same. They are in my t&p.

Also, your niece sounds so cute!
