Should "Fatties" Get a Room? (Even on TV?)

http://www.marieclaire.com/sex-love/dating-blog/overweight-couples-on-television

Ugh, have you girls seen this!  Terrible in so many ways!  (not to mention the writing and spelling)

Re: Should "Fatties" Get a Room? (Even on TV?)

  • WOW!  This is crazy!  I am an overweight person...and this was just down right mean!  The only thing I am glad about with this article is tipping me off about this show.  I think I might try and catch it sometime.  I am surprised she still has a job.

  • It is extremely offensive, especially when she makes it sound like losing weight is just so easy, all you have to do is eat right and exercise!  WTF!  Anyone who has ever tried to lose weight knows that it is no where near to that easy!

I saw the article on the H&F board, and some of those girls said that they are drooping their subscription to MC after that.  I have never bought it and definitely never will now!

  • WTF!  That was published in MC?  Talk about inappropriate!  Ick!

  • Wow, I always thought of Marie Claire as the more intelligent of the women's fashion mags.  Not anymore.

  • i LOVE mike and molly!  GREAT show and it is SOOOO funny!
  • Completely rude, insensitive and ignorant.  I can't believe that was published!

     Wow.

  • Wow. That is completely offensive and I can't believe it was published, even if just on their website. Not to mention it sounds like it was written by a high school student for high school students. I did notice that she apologizes at the end in a separate entry, but I think the damage was already done by allowing this to be posted. There was something a couple months ago in Marie Claire that made me mad as well and this just might be the thing that makes me cancel my subscription.

I call bullschitt on that one!!! I should have a 6 pack the way I do crunches and schitt, and I still look like I'm 25 months pregnant!!!

Unreal. I saw this on one of my friends' FB postings this morning. BTW it took me a long time but I'm finally comfortable in my size 14.  Now I just want to tone up my tummy and arms.

  • Wowzers. She should have thought (and edited!!!) as much as she did in writing the apology when she wrote the actual article. The article sounded like some rant in a personal diary that was never re-read or thought through before pushing the "post" button.

Ms. Kelly may have just ruined her career...

  • She should have just deleted the whole post and offered a retraction.  That snark was not funny.  Wow.

  • Wow. Just wow. I can't belive Marie Claire let that be published. And that is the most insincere apology ever, it's obvious that the article is how she "really" feels. I love how she justifies it by saying she has friends who are "plump" - they're probably like a size 10.

The sad thing is, there probably are many people who feel this way; but publishing something like this in the national media makes these opinions "okay" for people to have. Yuck!

  • I find it aesthetically displeasing to watch a very, very fat person simply walk across a room ? just like I'd find it distressing if I saw a very drunk person stumbling across a bar or a heroine addict slumping in a chair.

Seriously? WTH?? Aesthetically displeasing??? Comparing an overweight person to a drug addict??? OMG. I am stunned to find that Marie Claire would allow this BS to be posted on their site...Until they issue a public apology (and not just that crap on the blog), I'll never read them again. I have one on my desk right now at work...well, had. In the garbage. Intolerance is a very sore point with me, as it is with many. I have no patience at all for it Angry

This was the most horrifying sentence of the whole ridiculous article.   Did anyone notice (in the end of the "apology") it mentions that the author had battled with eating disorders.  It's obviously her own issue - but what a shame that this was published at all.

  • I have no words....honestly. As an overweight, HEALTHY woman (which apparently is not possible...but guess what, no high bp, no high cholesterol, no diabetes here!!!) I am so offended that Marie Claire would allow something this close minded and downright mean to be posted. They should be ashamed of themselves. And her "apology" was the most insincere thing I think I've ever read.

Ok...I guess I DID have some words :)

  • I agree wtih barbbhoww, I like that show. I actually watched the epsiode that she is talking about and I'm shocked that she somehow got all of that out of it. What a very narrow minded, self absorbed way to look at it. You can tell she has some major issues with food/weight but that doesn't mean she gets to go around making other people feel bad about how they look. I'm also shocked that any big name magazine that says it wants to promote healthy self images to teen/young adults would have anyone (still) working on their staff who would write something like this and post it under their brand.
