Thanksgiving plans?

I am longing for a break, this is why the Thanksgiving post is even created! Lol.

What are your plans for "turkey" day? Do you celebrate?

Vacation

Re: Thanksgiving plans?

  • Dh will be celebrating with either my sister/BIL in Dallas, or with friends here in OKC.

My best friend and I are venturing to Europe for a week. I am so stoked! We will spend Thanksgiving Day in Belgium eating a wonderful dinner and possibly a tour of a famous castle.

  • Thanksgiving's going to be quiet at my place - husband and my dad will be gone, so it'll just be the girls (and JJ).

My sister and I are going to the Usher/Trey Songz concert in Dallas the night before, so we'll drive down there, party hard, and come back in time to help my mom with Thanksgiving dinner. The rest of the weekend will be filled with football, sleep, eating and shopping. I'm very much looking forward to it.

  • We are doing the Turkey Trot Thanksgiving morning. I'm excited about that!

Then we're spending the rest of the day with my great grandma. She is 82 and has health problems. They think this will be her last thanksgiving. I want her to be able to spend time with Cooper. Not many people live long enough to play with their great great grandchild!
  • We're heading to Dallas to spend it at my parent's house. Two grandparents (Mom's Mom and Dad's Dad) will be there too, so it will be a full house. I'm really looking forward to it.

Tavia--Good luck with the Turkey Trot! My dad and I did it last year, and aside from almost having a cold weather-induced asthma attack at the beginning, it was a lot of fun! I'm actually wearing my Turkey Trot t-shirt today. :)

  • We were going to have DH's family over to our house to show off all of our renos but after yesterday...I am not sure what he wants to do now.

We did Thanksgiving by ourselves last year and it was so wonderful.  We bought matching pj pants at Old Navy, drank beer in the morning, put up our xmas lights...at this point, one of my favorite marriage memories!

  • We will have Thanksgiving lunch with my family since we spent it with the Hub's dad's family last year. We have about a weeks worth of Thanksgivings that will start the Sunday before Thanksgiving. Lets just say by the time the Saturday after Thanksgiving gets here and we have been to 3 or 4 already I am sick of turkey and ham but love the time we spend with family.

I plan to shop a little too.

Oooh, I want to do that, it sounds awesome! We usually do Thanksgiving by ourselves since we don't have family here. I plan to sleep in, watch football and enjoy not having to do a thing! Oh, and I guess I'll cook something :-) Last year I think we went to TGI Fridays...don't judge me!

    That sounds wonderful!

My parents are coming to our house for Thanksgiving this year from MO since H and I are going to the bedlam game on Saturday.  H's dad and brother may come over to eat, and I'm thinking about inviting a guy H works with who is single and doesn't have much family.  I am pretty excited about not having to travel and just being able to relax and enjoy the holiday.

  • Ugh, it's going to be stressful. We'll be going to DH's family's Thanksgiving in Tulsa on Thanksgiving day. That night we'll go to my mom and her new boyfriend's house and stay the night. Friday, we'll drive down back to OKC and either have Thanksgiving with my grandparents (dad's dad and stepmom) at somewhere like Furr's or drive down to their house in Sulphur (hopefully they'll come up to OKC). Then we'll probably go to my other grandparents' (dad's mom and stepdad) either Friday night or Saturday. Ugh, I'm stressed just thinking about it! Why does everyone have to get divorced, it makes it twice as crazy for the holidays. DH's side is easy, no divorces, just one big happy family dinner instead of 3 or 4.

  • I am hosting one big happy lunch/dinner this year so that I can avoid being in the car.  I have told everyone that they are welcome to come over from both sides of the family.  No idea at this point how many that will include but it seems a bit less stressful to me.  We had way too much driving to do last year.

Then don't do it. Pick two thanksgiving celebrations to attend - your husbands and one dinner from your family. Holidays do not have to be so miserable - my stomach is in knots from just reading your post - ugh!

  • I honestly have no idea. I will have to work the day after, so that will probably prevent me from going to my family in TX. If my grandparents are in town, I may go there. If not, may go with my roommate to her family's thing, or hang out at home. My family tends to split up and do our own things on Thanksgiving, but get together big for Christmas. I

I agree with Stripes.  It gets to a point where the holidays should be about YOUR family, not try to please everyone else's.

I'm happy that this year it seems that Thanksgiving will just be my and the BF.  My parents will be out of town (YEAHHHH!!) and we've spent so much time traveling to NM this year that I think that gets us out of Thanksgiving with them.  I really look forward to holidays where it's just the two of us.

Next to that, I'm REALLY looking forward to Stripes' Friendsgiving, which is the day after Thanksgiving.  I still remember the awesome stuffing she made last year.  Holidays with immediate family and friends are the best IMO.

  • We'll have Thanksgiving lunch with DH's grandparents and his paternal side of the family, and then Thanksgiving dinner either the same day or the day after with my fam. Last year we went out of town on Thanksgiving and I hated it - I think his grandma did too, because we both missed the Thanksgiving Day parade. I'm glad we're not doing that again.
  • My mom is going down to TX to spend Thanksgiving with my grandparents, so we will just be having dinner with H's family this year.  I am looking forward to getting to go one place and stay there on a holiday, for once.
  • Will be celebrating in the south with my BIG extended family. We do lunch at my parents house with my mom's brothers and sisters and cousins (this usually equals to about 30+ people). And then for dinner we go over to my great aunt's house where my dad's family are hanging out (this is about 60+ people all crammed in a farmhouse).

It's big and loud but it's fun.

I will make sure Rich knows we are having Friendsgiving this year. Wasn't sure if you all would be interested again....How fun!

  • depending on what's going on with me and the baby, we will either go to my mom's house for Thanksgiving and probably have Conner's godparents over OR if I'm feeling alright and no progress or whatnot we will trek it 2 hrs to my uncles house and do Thanksgiving with my dad's side.

  • On the actual day, I plan to run the Turkey Trot 5K in Edmond, then we will go to H's parent's house for the dinner event. I can't say I'm excited.

That weekend, H, my sister and I are having a special "little" Thanksgiving for us with fancier food (our family is very rooted in tradition and abhors anything new food-wise, regardless of yumminess) and wine!

  • We usually go to my mom's and to DH's grandma's on Thanksgiving Day--hopefully it'll work out to where they don't overlap too much.  Then we have Thanksgiving at my aunt and uncle's, I think it'll be the Sunday after Thanksgiving this year.

If my grandparents are here from Missouri (my mom's parents) then instead of going to my mom's Thanksgiving day we'll have a huge family gathering with my mom's side of the family.
ETA:  That Saturday is Bedlam time!!  Bedlam gets a little ugly around here for this OSU fan who lives in the land of crimson and cream! ;-)
  • DH and I are just staying here and making dinner, since we both live too far away from our families to easily go home for Thanksgiving. We'll see if we can round up some of our OU friends who also aren't going home. I'm still trying to convince my parents to come see us, but I doubt that's going to happen.

You should blow the roomie off and come to my house if your grandparents aren't in town. I'll make jalapeno poppers ;)

I'm hosting the big family shindig, which is definitely easier on me!  My sisters will come in early and we'll cook and bake all day.  Thanksgiving is my absolute favorite holiday.  The marathon cooking - and the eating that follows - with my sisters (and mom) is one of my fondest memories of holidays growing up.
