My cat peed!

While we were on our honeymoon in September our cat who has NEVER done anything like this peed all over our dinning room which is carpeted. I scrubbed it with nature's miracle and urine off and resolve. It still smells awful. Has this happened to anyone else? We are thinking of renting a steam cleaner. Luckily the room has a door so we keep him out now- but I am ANGRY!!!

Re: My cat peed!

  • Just scrubbing with Nature's Miracle won't do the trick - your cat's pee soaked into the carpet and thus so must your Nature's Miracle. Just pour in in where your cat peed and wait for it to dry (can take a week or so to dry completely). My two little dogs peed on our carpet in about a 1ft x 4ft area and we went through a gallon or so of Nature's Miracle.

You can also steam clean but it will take multiple cleanings to really make a difference. Make sure the steam cleaner you get actually heats the water (Rug Doctors do not), and since you have a pet it's probably worth it to buy a steam cleaner (you can get a good one around $150-200).

This is why I hate carpet...Good Luck!

this is exactly what I would do too!

  • I work in a vet office and that is a big issue!  We carry a product called Urine Away.  It is amazing!!!  I have five cats of my own and just recently had one urinating in my basement.  Urine Away took the stain and odor away instantly.  One of the doctors I work with used it in her house when one of her dogs started urinating on the carpets and she loved it as well.  It doesn't matter if you have cleaned with other products - it will still work.  You just spray it on the area and let it dry - it is amazing!!
  • thanks guys. today my cat walked over to my little kittens litter box (which is too small for him they have separate) and tried to pee in it but because he was too big- his butt hungover the side and it went all over the floor.

I want to bang my head against the wall right now -lol but I can't help but to laugh at the fact that had to happen at 7am before leaving for work. Why do i love these kitties so much!?!!! hahaha

    the cleaning continues tonight!

  • You know I've always had luck with plain white vinegar. Pour it on the affected area and let it dry (which can take days, but hey... whatever works!)

Then after it's dried pour some into a spray bottle, spray onto the fibers, allow to sit for an hour and then steam clean. Repeat as necessary.

My MIL's dog always pees in the living room when she leaves for a few days (even when everyone else in the house is still home!) She uses vinegar to get the stains out also. It seems to work really well. The vinegar neutralizes the smell of the urine...even if it has been dry for months! After a few hours you can hardly smell the vinegar. It takes a good amount though. You just pour it on and let it dry!
