The never ending battle...dog hair
Any ideas, tips on how to minimize this and make life a little easier? I'm allergic to both of them but, they came with the SO:) We have a bulldog and a chocolate lab if that helps.
Re: The never ending battle...dog hair
Brush or Furminate every other day.
Microfiber mop every day if you have hard floors. Swiffers get too expensive to be using them every day!
Roomba. I have three of them. If I don't have time to do a full vacuum in the morning, I hit the go buttons before I leave for work. I always do a regular vacuum on weekends, but our house really does need to be vacuumed daily.
Wash dog bedding every week. It's a hair magnet!
Make sure they're on a good food. Dogs on high quality food shed less and smell better.
One word.. furminator.
Also, I agree with MrsOjo, a quality dog food will make a little bit of a difference. On our vets advice, we switched our lab to Nature's Recipe Healthy Skin and Coat formula.
EVERYTHING here. It's what helps with our 3 cats. Though I don't use the microfiber mop--just Roomba daily. My allergies and the hair tumble-weeds are much better. Try to mop floors a couple times a week, wash curtains frequently, and spray upholstery with a anti-allergen spray. (It's not the pet hair that makes you allergic. It's the dander.)
Most people usually recommend the furminator but we don't use it. Our animals shed really bad and I know how bad bulldogs shed, so I can empathize! We bathe our animals regularly with brushing afterwards to cut back on it and I vacuum /clean the floors at least twice a week, which has really helped a lot!
The furminator is AMAZING. You can usually find it on Amazon or Ebay for really cheap!
We caved and bought a Dyson two years ago and it's worth every penny. It's the only vacuum that has held up to all the fur.
Feeding a high quality food will definitely help with the shedding, but it won't eliminate it completely.
I haven't tried the store couch brushes, but I will also take a lint roller to the couch and will vacuum the couch to help with fur there.
Good luck! I've come to the conclusion that fur will just be a part of our life, but there's definitely things that you can do to help control it
I love my swiffer! I stopped buying refill pads though, I found some regular cloth diapers, you know the ones with the absorbent centers, they work great. Newborn diapers fit better but when you are finished you just pop them in the wash! I can use them wet or dry! They even picked up my Pit Bulls fine coarse hair!
