A(nother) sign things aren't going well for the McCain campaign?
H and I are yet again, dog/housesitting for my parents (we might as well move in at this rate...) but one of my duties is to go through, sort my mom's mail and call her if anything important comes in while she's OOT.
In my sorting yesterday, I came across a package from the McCain campaign. When she called, I asked if she wanted me to open it for her and she said sure...
Inside was a a letter asking for donations--and while yes, it says they'll be happy for anything donors can give--the minimum "box" for one to check off is $100. The max is $5,000 (Isn't that over the limit of $2,300. How does one do this? Is it split then to the RNC, McCain campaign or as it asks here, "The McCain-Palin Victory 2008" fund?)
AND they ask that it please be sent before 10/23.
Here's the kicker...They also sent a pre-paid FedEx envelope so you can rush rush rush the contribution to them. That's the part that got me...if you're in such dire need of money, why send out (and PAY FOR) FedEx shipping?
There's also a scary-sounding letter that says, and I quote:
"Americans don't want to hand a victory to al Qaeda--the Obama Democrats do."
(Among other things--but I personally loved the hinting that Democrats are for al Qaeda.)
I asked my mom what she wanted me to do with the thing and she said, "oh, throw that crap away. I don't even know how I got on his mailing list."
(Note: I do. You're a registered, voting Republican.)
Has anyone ever heard of this before? Sending donors a FedEx envelope so they can get you the money asap? I'm wondering if it's maybe something they did for older voters who maybe aren't comfortable donating online?
Either way--H and I got a kick out of it. (And the fact my mom isn't sending a penny...)

I DO NOT want to hand a victory to al Qaeda, and please refrain from insinuating that me or my party want to do this. This is highly, highly insulting. You are ascribing an INTENT to the party that absolutely, 100 percent, does not exist.
This would be akin to me saying that Republicans just want to hand a victory to the racists and the KKK of America. I doubt this would fly, nor do I even remotely believe that this is true.
I always think it odd when people say "loose the war" or "loose in Iraq". This isn't something to win or loose. We don't "win" Iraq in the end - whenever that may be.
In case it's not clear from my post, I define "loss" in Iraq as any withdrawl which does not leave behind a stable and US-friendly Iraq.

I doubt my mom donated to MPC...she has been lukewarm on him for months, and went downright cold after the Palin pick (Anyone remember me saying she wished Biden and McCain would team up? That's her, lol)
She was, however, a Giuliani supporter during the primaries. I don't doubt she may have donated to his campaign. And maybe that list got to the MPC?
Marilyn--the letter is on John McCain letterhead and signed by McCain.
On the bottom, it says it's "Paid for by the McCain-Palin Victory 2008" and underneath it says "A joint fundraising committee by and composed of the Republican National Committee, the Michigan Committee, the Michigan Republican Party, the Missouri Republican State Committee, the Ohio Republican Party State Central & Executive Committee, the Republican Federal Committee of Pennsylvania and McCain-Palin Compliance Fund."
So it seems like not so much the MPC itself, but the RNC and quite a few state committees.
The states all look like battleground states...maybe that's why she got it? We live in battleground FL...
Ah possibly the battleground states are getting this big time. And the RNC may have her name from a Guiliani donation.
The most I have gotten was a phone call a couple of weeks ago. I told the woman I was happily supporting McCain but when she asked for a donation I said no. My donation is my vote.
Personally I have never given money to a campaign & have no plans to ever do so unless my DS runs for office one day! LOL! All I keep thinking of is all the millions & millions of dollars that have been spent over the last 18 months by all the candidates that could have been spent on my more important things like the homeless or rebuilding areas hit by all the natural disasters of the past few years - the hurricanes, the floods, the fires etc.
I thought the public financing came with donation limits and/or reporting requirements, not that they couldn't accept private donations?
