My Babies Are Getting So Big!
They are 2.5 weeks old now which means they'll be heading to their new homes in only 3 weeks.
But they started opening their eyes this week so I updated their litter page. If anyone wants to see fuzzy, squeaky goodness click here.
And an old picture to show all the colors I got out of this litter:
Re: My Babies Are Getting So Big!
Lol, ditto.
I still keep thinking you mean human babies..LOL
Very cute. So, educate me... why is Viking more money??? He is really cute, but i'm sure there's a better reason.
Viking (and four others) are Harley rats which are still rare. They were actually just "discovered" by a breeder who randomly walked past the first Harley rat (named Harley) in a pet store in 2002. No one knows where the first one came from or how it came to be, but after a 3 year breeding program they eventually figured out how to produce them. Once it was figured out they were sent all over the US to expand the line (California and NY got the first ones). Then they went to Europe, Australia, and South America. I am the first AZ rattery to specialize in them, actually!
So those babies are a little more valuable and therefor more expensive.
And I bet you didn't know rat breeding was this serious. I'm also starting a Downunder line which is a breed of rat that was "discovered" and bred originally in Australia and then imported to the US just a couple of years ago. Though there's another rattery doing DUs already in AZ so don't have that niche.
That is so interesting. I mean really, I had no idea.
And I mean this in total jest... I hope you arn't a BYB (backyard breeder)...LOL.. that's all my dogcentric rescue bones speaking.
But really this is so cool and it's cool to see that so many of yours are spoken for already
. I don't think I could ever do something like this, but it's still cool. I wish you nothing but lots of luck!
Aw, you know me! I'm rescue 100%. The problem with rats is, they only live 2-3 years. When I would rescue I would usually only get a few months to a year with my rats so I started adopting from ratteries (I will not adopt from PetCo/PetSmart! Those rats are almost always sick). The reason I started breeding is because the only breeders in the Phoenix area breed for feeders or are "accidental" litters. There was no one breeding pedigree (yes, rats have pedigrees) rats from known lines.
Thus far all of my rats are from known and established lines and my breeders come from ratteries in California that I've been adopting from for years. Which is why when I got a rat that no one can identify we've been sitting on Facebook debating him for weeks! It's rare you get a "mystery" rat out of known and established line. Genetics are fun.
