PAKARUFUS

Hey, quick vet-related question.... I'm watching my mom's chihuahua for like the next week and a half.  She's allergic to fleas and apparently picked up a couple in the backyard and is now scratching like crazy.  I'm going to bathe her with flea shampoo tonight after work and she'll be getting a dose of frontline on Friday.  She's now got a hotspot on her tail where she's been biting.  What can I do about it??

Re: PAKARUFUS

  • You need to get an antiseptic spray for hot spots. You get it at any pet store.

  • Awesome!  Thanks!  Brody has never gotten a hotspot before, so I wasn't sure what to do for Killer.

Hehe...your mom's Chihuahua's name is Killer.  Awesome.  Yes

  • Well, technically she was MINE, so I named her.  I found her in the parking lot my junior year in high school.  I decided to skip school and bring her home.  My mom was pissed.  She didn't want another dog.  We couldn't find her owner and by then my mom was stuck.  I couldn't take her with me when I moved away for college so she became my mom's dog.

  • A topical antibiotic (Neosporin) is OK to apply as long as she isn't licking it (you may have to cover it to keep her from licking, try kids undies) if it is small.  If it is large she may need some oral antibiotics.  Hope she feels better soon!  I LOVE Chihuahuas!
  • It's on her tail (like in the middle of it), so is there a good way to cover that?  I thought about maybe putting a sock on it, but I don't think she'll stand for that.
