Nebraska girls...

Will you all be at the game this weekend??  It should be a good one.

We went to the game at Lincoln 2 years ago and had a blast.  It definitely helped that we won.  :)

Anyway - we are hoping for a good time again this year.  The last time we were there, we were with my bestfriend who is from Nebraska and a huge husker fan.  So I think that helped us to have a blast.  Everyone was so nice and welcoming...she took us around to a few of her friends houses and tailgates.

She will not be with us this year.  So we are trying to figure out where to park, tailgate, etc.

Thanks a ton.  Good luck this weekend.

Re: Nebraska girls...

  • We aren't going to the game this week so we?ll have to watch it on TV.  We went down for the OSU game last week.

My favorite place to park is in the neighborhoods around 24th and Vine street and then you can walk to campus/the stadium on Vine and avoid the crazy downtown traffic.  The Haymarket (directly west of campus) or downtown (directly south of campus) are good places to hang out and eat.  The traffic will be busy and it?s all one way streets downtown so I?d recommend parking somewhere else and walking to downtown/Haymarket.  There are tailgating lots over by the baseball stadium and in the lots around the stadium.  The students tailgate in the North Bottoms which would also be another area to park.  That?s around Charleston Street and North 10th.  Traffic isn?t too bad if you come in south on N 10th Street  As for getting into Lincoln, I?d avoid the 9th street exit from interstate if possible as it gets really busy.  I?d recommend coming in on Vine or North 10th if you want to park on the north side.

In any of those areas, you can park on the streets for free or there will be lots.  They do enforce parking meters on gameday so don?t park there unless you want a ticket.  You could also park in the student lots on campus for $10.

Here is the campus map: http://maps.unl.edu/

This site has a lot of good info, too: http://www.huskers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=100&KEY=&ATCLID=18420&SPID=41&SPSID=3047

Let me know if you have any questions!

  • I'll be there!  I can PM you my e-mail addy if you have any specific questions when you get to Lincoln!  I also like the parking back on Vine.  My family has a parking lot 1 pass so we park in the garage a lot (I probably will on Saturday -- I may not leave Omaha until 11 or so due to family being in town).

I LOVE the Sidetrack Bar.  They sing dirty songs and it's a really good time.  Other people like Barry's (I'm not a fan) but it's a relatively popular one, too.  Did you guys get a room in Lincoln? If you need help with anything or have questions just holler!

It'll be an AWESOME game! :)

  • Thanks so much, ladies.

We did get a hotel room. I am not sure which one - DH took care of it.

We have some friends coming in for the game also.  So hopefully between all of us we can figure out where to go and best place to tailgate.  I am guessing we will go out afterwards.  We did not go out to any bars last time we were in town so I am not sure what to expect with that.  :)

I think the last time we tailgated near the bottoms where the students are.  I am guessing that's where we were anyway.  We walked around to a few people's houses who were students.  And we were just a few minute walk from the stadium...if I remember right, we had to walk over an overpass.  Does this sound right?  That seemed like a good place.  We paid $10 or 15 and it worked out well.

Yep!!  The Bottoms is a great place to tailgate!  I've been over there a few times with friends and always had a great time. :)  You definitely walk over the overpass from that neighborhood.

If you go out after the game O Street is a good place for bars.  Brothers, Brass Rail (the team is BANNED from Brass Rail but it used to be "the place to go" if you were a football player after the game), and a bunch of other bars.

Did you get tickets from Mizzou?  You're probably in section 19 or 20 right?  I'm excited for you!  I'll either be in section 224 with my dad or over in section 39 right above the lower tunnel.  I haven't fought those details out with my brother yet. :)

Oh, and if you guys like pasta and you get in on Friday night, you should hit Spaghetti Works.  Cheap, all you can eat, delicious! :)
