mrsdawnmarie mentioning the 1-800-Ask-Gary commercial in another thread just got me thinking about other commercials I can't stand.... I remember us talking about this a loooooong time ago, but time has passed and there are likely new commercials we despise, right? ![]()
The one that comes to my mind first is the pertussis commercial with the woman holding the baby and the entire 40-some second commercial contains awful baby wheezing and coughing. I hate it so much, it's disturbing. I think they could get their point across without that. I scramble to mute the TV or change the station every time it comes on.
The next that comes to my mind is anything that I have to hear Michelle Bachmann's voice. Just....ick.
What are yours?
Re: Commercials that suck.
Radio beer commercials -- I HATE HATE HATE the sound of the beverages pouring that they always use. I'm cringing as I type. I drives me UP THE WALL.
Still can't shake that thought....
And any commercial that thinks it's super clever to be really fvcking LOUD compared to what I'm watching.
There is a law firm (can't remember the name) that airs bankruptcy assistance commercials during trashy day-time court TV.
I am going to butcher the dollar amount, but when the text information comes on the screen, it says something like "Only 100$ down"
The dollar sign IS IN THE WRONG SPOT. Ugh. I hate it. Who the h-e-double hockey sticks is going to hire a lawyer who doesn't even know how to write a dollar amount properly?
It pissed me off so much while I was on maternity leave that I e-mailed the managing partner of the firm about it. He never wrote me back, lol.
A Little Bird and a Monkey Butt
The political ads make me change the channel so fast my head spins. Ugh. I wonder if anyone sits at home watching those negative ads and says, "Hmmmm...your ad appears make you out to be the biggest bully so I think I'll vote for you!"
The Old Navy supermodelquins make me sick to my stomach.
I think it's Hom furniture that has commercials 50 times louder than anything else. And they often play twice in a commercial break, what is that about?
I hardly ever watch live TV so I fast forward through almost everything. But now I hate that shows are getting sneaky and putting a little "bonus" clip in between some commercials so you stop to watch and then BLAMMO more commercials!!! Grrrr.
I hate negative political ads. I don't mind the positive "this is what I stand for" type, but seriously, let's see how far we can throw our apponent under the bus is not appealing to me.
There was a capital one commercial a few years ago that DH would always say and it drove me up the wall, of course I can't remember any more details than that right now.
Nicole and Sam 10/3/09
the commercials about the baby back ribs. it makes me want to hit things.
um, HELLO... the mickey ds singing fish?
i know there are so many more but i can't remember them right now.
Any of the e-trades with the talking baby drive me bonkers. I think that they're a) not funny and b)sometimes really gross (like the one where the kid spit up that they put on more than once during the superbowl)
Yep - agree with strength too about any of the filet-o-fish commercials on TV OR radio. Most. obnoxious. jingle. ever.
Any and all political ads. Didn't we just have elections?!?! And they wonder why voting is not a "priority" for young people... hmm maybe because you annoy the crap out of everyone??
I think voting is a responsibility of citizenship and I take that very seriously but to be totally honest, I would rather lock all the candidates in a room together and let them rip eachother apart and not have to deal with them anymore.
OH! And any of the "story" type ads that Kay Jewelers run over and over and over between Thanksgiving and Valentine's Day.
"oooh, I'm scared from the thunderstorm"
"here you go honey, I'm going to be here to keep you safe for FOREVER and have a ring (or necklace, or earrings) to prove it"
Agree on the political ads. Bad.
I'm annoyed by the commercials for Beggin' Strips ... the ones where the dog "talks" and begs for Beggin' Strips. Yeah, if anyone looked at the ingredients in those nasty treats, they would never buy them. Bacon is like the 10th ingredient on the list ... below wheat flour, corn gluten and a lot of other things that aren't good for dogs.
Also despise the Empire Carpet ad ... the jingle always gets stuck in my head and I end up repeatedly thinking "800-588-2300, Empire"
Mr. Sammy Dog
Or any other pet food ad for me. I wish the actual good brands would make commercials but they would rather put their money into making a better product. :-(
I also hate mascara commercials because you KNOW they are wearing fakes. No one has natural lashes like that, even Latisse users!
Speaking of political ads, have any of you seen that Tom Emmer ad where his voice is totally doctored? It's the weirdest thing--he's looking at the camera saying "I'm going to lower taxes and blah blah blah", but it's totally NOT his voice! At least it's not how he sounds in the 1,000,000 debates I've listened to over the past 6 months...
I don't know if it's intentional or what, but it's... just odd.
I can't hit the mute button fast enough when this one comes on. Now my husband even hits mute before I have the opportunity to say anything.
I hate all commercials on the internet. I just want to watch The Daily Show or South Park uninterrupted TYVM.
But if I can just add one thing: the Geico commercials are hilarous! The woodchucks and the pig squealing WHEEEEEEEEEEEEE crack me up every single time!
Yes, those "I'm a Mormon" commercials are just odd! That was my only explanation for them too--that they must be trying to pave the way for a future Mitt Romney run...
