Gown Preservation

Who is doing this?  Is it worth it?  I am totally torn about it.  It's quite a bit of money which could be used for other things.  But I also want to keep my dress and don't want it to disintegrate.  What do you guys think?

Re: Gown Preservation

  • I plan on doing it but not right away. It's just not in the budget and will stay in it's cloth bag until I can put away the money to get it done.

  • I saw some good reviews about Wedclean.com, that's the least expensive I've seen.  I paid $249 for mine, which I know is on the high side, but I brought it back to where I brought my dress and that included some repairs it needed (a large rip in the hem- the dress is silk and one of the cups fell out).  If it hadn't needed repairs I would have totally used one of the online places.

  • I think mine is $150-$200, with a coupon my bridal salon gave me.  I still haven't gotten off of my bum to get it done.  I feel like it's worth it to get it preserved, though I don't think there's anything wrong with shopping around for a better price!

  • I haven't even thought about this yet. I still need to have mine cleaned, but never planned on preserving it since I want to donate it at one point (I am not ready to part with it just yet though).. Would I also be a bad bride to say I don't see the point in preserving a gown?

To be honest, it's still hanging in my closet at my parent's, unwashed, dirtyass train, without the bag & all.

  • Davids Bridal has a special for $99.  I haven't heard anything good or bad about using them.  Its where I got my dress so I am thinking about using them.

  • Mine is in a trash bag on the floor of the closet right now.   I'm pretty happy with that right now. It already served it's purpose.

This is mine.  Although it's in a bag.  I keep meaning to call my bridal salon and get a quote.

Ooooh thanks.  How did you hear about that?  I just went on their website and didn't see anything about a special.  (although I do see that they offer the service).

  • I can basically ditto Stef. It's hanging up, dirty as all get out, no plans currently to change that. I am actually debating on selling it.

I can't handle that right now though, so there it sits.

  • I called them and they said $185 I think.  Not terrible, but not too great either.  I think I might do it.  Then I can stop agonizing about whether to do it or not.  Stick out tongue
