Austin for New Years?

Hi Ladies - DH and I are trying to decide where to take a mini-vacation for new year's, and I wanted to get your advice on hotels, things to do, see, etc. in Austin. Friends of ours went a few years ago and loved the city, but I wanted some advice from the experts!  TIA :)

Re: Austin for New Years?

  • I would love to stay at Driskill Hotel for NYE, the location is great.

For the remaining of your stay Hotel San Jose would be a really cool place to stay at.

  • Austin used to do a celebration in downtown Austin called "First Night," but it's been cancelled this year.

I am sure, though, that there will be plenty going on at bars/clubs/hotels downtown that might still be fun.  In fact, last year I ended up going to a hotel party that wasn't downtown, and ended up having a blast. . .probably due to the excellent 80's cover band.

What kinds of things are you interested in doing?

ETA: Austin has a ton of great restaurants and bars, here's a link to some of the more popular choices.

  • I saw that Bess (restaurant owned by Sandra Bullock) is doing a 1920's themed dinner that night that looks super fun.

Last time I was in Austin for NYE, we were at a wedding at Shoreline Grill so we had a great view of the fireworks over Town Lake (and open bar!).

Definitely make reservations somewhere for a great post-NYE brunch. And other than that, just hang out, explore, and have fun!
