This is the perfect BC! Absolutely no side effects, and only once every three months! Anybody else out there love it?
Also, we just started having sex without condoms about a month or so ago and as you all know, what a freaking relief. But I have had some stinging a few minutes after we're done. It's not horrible but enough to be irritating. Do you think it's just b/c my body's not used to getting his love juice in there? I know I don't have a yeast infection or anything, so It can't be that.
Re: The Shot and a Question!
*sigh*
Everyone reacts differently to hormones. I loved the depo shot too, but it is pretty awful for some people. Your first paragraph really let your ignorance shine.
Ask your Dr. about the stinging; it could be caused by a number of things. I would probably use the word "semen" in place of "love juice" when speaking to a health professional.
I've been on it for over a year; I like it.
My neighbor hates it and thinks that I shouldn't be on it because her and her sister were on it and she gained 100 lbs in 8 months and that her sister had suicidal thoughts. There are side effects including sucidal thoughts, increased facial hair, loss of sexual appetite, hair loss in the head, and decreased bone density. So, it's not always the "best" option.
I haven't had a reaction to that; I'd call the doctor/OB/Planned Parenthood and ask them.
It was the worst for me..
I spotted the whole last month before my last shot.. with 1 full week of actual bleeding...
I gained quite a bit of weight (about 15 lbs)
It made me extremely emotional...
Looking back, I wish I never would have used it....
every BODY is different....plus a question.. how long have you been on it? I didn't gain weight right away, it took some time before I had some of the side effects...
I'm sorry it was so bad for you!
It's been almost a month. So I'm not being too hasty with it
But one thing I just noticed was that I missed my entire first period from it. Which confused me bc the doctor told me it would take an entire year to completely stop having a period. Pregnancy test? I mean, I'd like to have peace of mind about that, but it's unlikely.
That sounds awful!
And yeah what you described sounds a lot like what I have. Did it feel like there were tears or did you find out from a doctor?
I recently wanted to get away from taking a pill every day. I have been on the pill for years, and the thought of putting a pill in my mouth every day made me sick. When I asked my gyno about other options, The shot, IUD, the ring, etc. She was very upfront about all the people that have problems with the shot. Please be careful to notice the signs and know that it can be directly related to your birth control. My doctor refused to use it, as there are many other methods available. It is scary to think that it lasts in your system for so long that if something were to happen (suicidal thoughts.....) it would take 3 months (at a minimum) to be out of your system.
I decided to go with the ring. I have been on it about a year, and sofar have been happy. However you should not ignorant to the possible side effects of any medication.
You have been very defensive about people reacting to your post, I think many people are trying to help, as opposed to hurt you. Atleast that is my intention. I hope this was helpful to you.
It was helpful!
Yeah, I was just a little perturbed from one post! Not a big deal though.
I don't think I could take a pill for that long either. How does your ring work? I haven't ever looked into it.
I am a little curious about the ring, taking the pill every day is a big of a pain sometimes.. I don't want to be on the pill forever...
What are the pro's and con's dealing with the ring??
Sorry to have perturbed you, but come on. Can we agree that exclaiming "absolutely no side effects!" was a seriously asinine thing to say?
What is the purpose of this response? It just seems like you are looking to start a fight with the OP. She is probably young and said herself that she had only been on the shot for one month. And it IS possible that she would not experience any negative side effects from it! Everyone experiences hormonal birth control differently.
Why do you have to get her to try to get her to agree that what she said was asinine? It didn't seem asinine to me. It was just a question/comment. And I have to agree with the OP, the tone of both your first and second posts was rude and unnecessary. It's people like you that make the Nest boards so unpleasant. What do you get out of being snarky to a stranger over the internet?
I'm not trying to be b!tchy for the sake of being b!tchy. There is an entire pamphlet explaining the possible side effects. Now that the OP knows this, maybe she can avoid making naive comments in the future. I suffered several life-threatening pulmonary embolisms due to hormonal BC, so yeah, I felt it necessary to point out that "no side effects!" is an asinine thing to say. Perhaps I could have been nicer.
Furthermore, people get ripped a new one everyday for using childish euphemisms like "love juice" or "down there". I wasn't really that mean about it.
