It's a....

girl! I'm sure most people know (thanks Facebook!) but our little girl arrived in a rush on Wednesday 10-27. Charlotte Evelyn was born at 3:18pm and was 20.5 inches long and 7 lbs 14.5 oz.

My water broke right before midnight but no contractions so since I didn't want to just sit and sit at the hospital, I hung out at home for a while. I finally woke Kevin and called my mother around 5:30am to say I was having contractions. They were not too intense and pretty irregular, but mostly felt in my back (which is still aching, thank you back labor). Ranging from 4-12 mins apart, we played cards and watched tv to pass time.

A little after 1 pm we finally called the dr and they told us to just come into the office. As soon as we got in the car, my contractions started coming faster. Kevin told me, "Well, you did say that if the car ride isn't torture, you didn't wait long enough." so I just kept breathing. I was beginning to doubt myself because I really thought I would be told I hadn't made much progress and wasn't sure how much longer I could keep that up.

We arrived around 1:45pm. At the dr's office, one of the doctors came in to check me, said "You're fully dilated - WE NEED AN AMBULANCE" and ran out of the room. The ambulance arrived. Kevin rode in the front seat, while I was in the back with a nurse and dr from the office. I seriously want to go back and kiss that nurse, I don't know that I would have make it ok without her - she really helped me to focus and breathe through the contractions.

We arrived at the hospital and went right into the ER where the L&D team was waiting for us - we never even went up to L&D, I had the baby right on the trauma unit.  I was really proud of myself for not freaking out and for being able to do it without any meds - it was something I was hoping to do, but wasn't sure I could.

We ended up staying an extra night at the hospital because we are having some difficulty with the whole eating-pooping thing, but we are working on it. We are SO glad to finally be home today.
