V-A-C-A-T-I-O-N!

So hubby and I are thinking about where to go for our one year anniversary (more or less - we might travel in early May since April is a busy month at my job...)

We originally had our hearts set on Aruba, but now are looking around for something more economical.  Please suggest a vacation destination that you've been to... the only requirement is that we need to be at the BEACH!

Thanks :)

Re: V-A-C-A-T-I-O-N!

  • If by economical you mean you can drive there....I would suggest Cape Cod. DH and I were there last summer and I absolutely fell in LOVE with Martha's Vineyard! I am dying to go back...it's actually one of the places we are considering for our anniversary trip. Another option if you want to fly is Cocoa Beach, Florida. We were there 3 years ago for a friends wedding and I loved it there.

  • We went to the Bahamas and it was GREAT!!  I am not sure I would recommend Breezes Bahamas in Nasseau.  They had their good points, but some bad points too.  There is a Sandals there, which of course is pricier than Breezes.  We LOVED it though and it was a lot less than Aruba AND closer (which made me happy).

  • I haven't been there yet, but I'm looking into Dominican Republic for our next vacation. There are beautiful all inclusive resorts there that are affordable. I have several friends who've been there and have only heard good things.

  • Depending on whether you are definitely set on the Carribean, Florida may be a reasonable option.  I always wanted to see the Keys, and I've heard Clearwater beach is really nice.

  • Wellllllll we went to Aruba on our Honeymoon and stayed here:

And it was only $2,000 for the both of us.  Not sure how "reasonable" that is for you....

We are going here....this will be our last chance to go somewhere (we'll start TTC after the trip) so 5-Star, Butler service it is!

    We LOVEEE cheap carribean!

  • For our honeymoon we stayed at Palace Resorts Cozumel.  Cozumel was not too cheap, but Palace resorts has some all inclusives on the main land of Mexico which were way more affordable (and cheaper airfare).  Palace was amazing, we definitely plan to go back to one on the mainland sometime soon, (just make sure you are not hitting Spring Break).
  • Oh, and do you have a Costco membership?  They have some amazing travel deals!  I would check them out.

And my parents are going to Mazatlan in a few weeks through Costco and said that it is quite cheap.

  • I second Cocoa Beach - my brother lived there for several years and it was one of my favorite aspects of visiting his family :-)

I also second the Florida Keys - H and I vacationed there while we were dating, and they have beautiful private type islands accessible only by ferry, with no cars allowed that are super clean and the water is simply azure blue and amazing!!!

Another local place that I would recommend is Catalina Island, off the coast of CA. Simply stunning, beautiful beaches, and still not overrun with tourists...and fairly great weather year-round...this place is also on our short list for our anniversary trip as well as the Keys, if we decide to stay local. Also, we have been to Bermuda many times, and it is definitely one of our favortie "quick" getaway places, but it's really not that far...there is nothing not to like about Bermuda!!

    Good Luck!!

  • I also think cocoa beach is beautiful. I have been wanting to go back but I havent yet and what is sad is I live in Tallahassee. Destin Beach is also beautiful, I would highly recommend staying at the destin resorts. I am not sure on your price limit but we went to st thomas st martin and st john on our honeymoon and st john was AMAZING

  • the Keys would be really fun. If you wait until May they will start having off-season rates and it will be a lot cheaper, too!

  • You girls are full of good ideas!

DH and I are in the process of selecting a cruise to go on in February/March which ends up being fairly economical with all your entertainment and food included. You can also get some great deals that time of year before it gets really hot.

  • DH and I were looking at trips to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic.  From central Wisconsin for five nights, the price was roughly $2,600.

This is the one we were looking at:  http://www.allinclusiveoutlet.com/vacations/resorts/catalonia/catalonia-royal-bavaro/

Gets some pretty good reviews on Trip Advisor too.

    Happy searching!

  • Thanks soo much!!!!  For those of you that have been to the Florida Keys - give me more info - where to stay, things to do, etc.  It looks beautiful!

I've been to Fort Lauderdale, but I wouldn't mind trying a new Florida beach.

And by economical, I would say like $2000 total or less for hotel and air?
