College Question

Either for folks who work at a college or who went to one in recent memory.

When I went to school, there was a campus service where students could go to look for jobs.  The school gathered job listings and contacts and would help students with resumes and job searches.

I'm not sure if this kind of thing was standard, or if it was just some schools that offered this, and I'm not sure if it still exists with all of the job seeking tools on the internets that were not around back when I was in school and the internets were called and abacus.

So anyway, if it still exists, what is the name of the 'department' or the name of the person who is in charge of helping students find jobs post-graduation?  I'm contacting schools to look for candidates for some jobs, and before I just start cold calling, I'd like some idea of who to ask for.

Re: College Question

  • It still exists.  We call it the "Career and Applied Learning Center", but I've also heard it referred to as "Career Services."
  • We had that at my university. I think it's a common things at most schools. It was called the Career and Employment Centre. You could probably search the school web page quickly for some key works related to that. Or just call some kind of main information line and ask if they have a Career ResourceCentre/Employment Support Centre, etc.
  • Thanks!

  • I think ours was called Student Employment Services for current students looking for work and The Career Center for outgoing students doing the big job search.

  • At Rider it was "Career Services".

Ditto.  We had a "Career Advisor" at the "Career Services Office".

  • See, I just referred to that office as Useless.  But then again, it was probably my own damned fault for being a sociology/women's studies major.
