What do you do when you're not writing your novel? Do you get to do any kind of writing at all?
And on a semi related note, when did you realize you loved to write so much that you wanted to write a novel?
I work in a hospital and am in grad school for public health, so there is absolutely no creativity in my daily life. It's making me crazy. I've always loved to write, and this summer I finished a book and thought "I honestly think I could do better than that." So, here I am
And, go!

I stay at home with our two kiddos, and I also have a private massage therapy practice. So, I guess I have a certain amount of creativity in both of my "jobs." I sometimes can manage to do some writing while the kids are down for naps, but the bulk of my writing is done at night after they're in bed.
I really didn't write anything creatively outside of required school projects until NaNo 2 years ago. A bunch of NBCers were doing it and on Oct 31st I said "What the Hell!" and joined in. I had a story from my past I wanted to get out of my brain, so that's how it all began. I did NaNo again last year and have a novel-length story I've been working on since May that I've been using as practice for plot pacing since that's my big weak point right now. I've improved so much in the past 2 years and am so excited to write this novel this year - I think this story finally has potential to maybe push all the way through drafting to revision to maybe even querying.
I wrote steadily from 8th grade through to my freshman year in college. And then, I stopped. I always wanted to get back to it so a couple of years ago, a few of the NBCers were talking about it and I tried it.
I hope to finish this year.
I'm a sexual assault counselor and a grad student. I'll be finishing up my Master's degree this December. I don't get to do much writing in my job, other than file notes or letters to caseworkers. I do use writing as a therapeutic intervention, though. Some of my clients love it, and I have one girl who is extremely talented.
I've always liked to write. I remember writing little stories in elementary school. As I got older, I began writing more poetry. When I was in high school, I took a summer writing course at a local college. One of our assignments was to write a short story. I loved it. There were so many ideas in my head that I had trouble deciding on one. I ended up writing a story about a haunted house. The ghost was a mentally disabled girl who had been locked in the attic for her entire short life, because her Victorian era family was embarassed by her. Not very original, but I was so excited about it. Once I got into college and started working full-time, I found my writing fizzled out. I would scribble poems or lines that caught my attention. I kept getting story ideas but never made the time to write them down. I feel like I'll be able to commit more time to my writing now that grad school is almost over.
I'm a proofreader, so I read/work with words all day. I love my job!
As for writing--I've always loved to write. When I was 13 I wrote an entire novel about my softball team traveling all over the US competing in tournaments. It was lame, but the fact that I wrote an entire novel was awesome! I did the same again when I was 15, this time it was about the aftermath of a drunk-driving related car crash that took the lives of 2 high school students.
I haven't written a novel since. As I got older, I became more of a perfectionist. It's driving me nuts--right now I have 5 or 6 ideas but don't want to do any of them because I don't feel like they're bestseller quality. LOL I really have to let that go! (random aside over)
I'm a high school English teacher.
I've loved writing my whole life, but I didn't start it seriously until the past few years.
I a senior account executive at an ad agency, but I don't do advertising. I'm in a different department.
There is some creativity in my job, but unfortunately there's also a lot of stress... so it sucks away my personal creativity (i.e. writing a novel).

Bloggy
I am the payroll/benefits person at a private school. There is no creativity in my position, but there are definitely events that happen on almost a daily basis that make me think "gee, that would make a great story."
I've always liked writing. I remember back in middle school we had to do daily journaling. You could either write based on the daily prompt (lame) or you could follow your own creativity. Mine took me down the path of a bodice ripping romance novel. Complete crap, sure, but I felt like I was doing something amazing. Can't wait to get started next week!

I'm an environmental lawyer.
I write constantly at work, but it's all legal writing, and not overly creative (although, with some cases, it does get pretty creative
)
I've always loved to write, whether it's journaling, blogging, or just creative writing for fun. This is my third NaNo, and I've written a few shorter things in between, but fiction kind of goes in fits and starts for me. I know I'll never publish any of it, because I don't really have much of a desire to - it's really just a hobby for me. I'd love to be able to publish some of my other stuff though.

Well hello D!
I am a SAHM now, but I worked for several years as a journalist and editor and I still free-lance about 1-2 articles a month. I love that I finally have the free time to do this! I've always wanted to write a book, but have procrastinated/chickened out/put it off for so many dumb reasons. I've loved to write for as long as I can remember and have done it my whole life.
