Your opinion: Chiropractic - yea or nay?
I'm all sorts of crazy wonky and whacked in my back, neck, shoulders, hips.... thank you, new job!
So tell me: what are your thoughts?
Re: Your opinion: Chiropractic - yea or nay?
Big, big nay.
Get massages regularly and call it good.
Absolutely yea. I have been going to a chiropractor for almost five years now and I've seen great improvement in all the areas you've mentioned. I've had a very bad back for years and now can be pain free inbetween my adjustments. I'm sure I could find an even bigger benefit from it if I exercised more and ate better. My whole family goes now (including the kids).
If you go I would definitely go on recommendations. I've been to a 'bad' chiropractor before where they only spot treat and don't look at your whole body.
I love my chiro. Love. I've never had such consistent relief from my migraines, and when I was pg with K, he helped with hip and back pain.
I'm probably out of the way for you, but Dr. Barrett at Hugo Chiropractic is amazing. I'm not as big of a fan of his partner, Dr. Carter, but he's decent too. Dr. Barrett either is or used to be the president of the MN Chiropractic Association too.

Big big yea!
Anyone who says Nay either hasn't tried chiropractic or had a bad experience from a bad chiro who makes all the good chiros look bad.
Massage won't "fix" anything, but is a great supplementation to chiropractic care.
Apparently I tried 3 different bad ones, then. All that resulted from my trying them was I had significantly less money and exactly the same back issues.
Said issues went away completely after getting a massage every 2-3 weeks for 3 months and doing yoga 3x/week.
Huge YEA!! I don't think I would have made it through being pregnant without regular visits. She did wonders for my hip/pelvic pain. I had a few massages but the adjustments are what really helped relieve the pain.
I highly recommend looking for one that practices Applied Kinesiology which uses muscle testing to help diagnose specific needs for each individual. I will never go again to a traditional "bone cracker".
Massage is just not enough for me. I feel so out of whack that a little more work is needed....
I believe the one my dad/stepmom see is a more holistic practitioner who focuses on full body. That would be important to me, as I've heard negative things about those that just crack crack goodbye!
Chiropractic care really changed my life--seriously. I had chronic back pain since I was a kid, and daily headaches for most of my adult life. I started seeing an excellent chiropractor nearly three years ago, and... oh my god, I can't even tell you how much better I feel! I rarley have headaches, my posture is a million times better, and the chronic back pain is gone.
I was so out of whack at the outset, that my chiro had me come in daily for the first week, then twice a week, then once a week, then every other week... I now go every 3-4 weeks.
Massage therapy can be a really great supplement to chiropractic work. I'd recommend going to an actual massage therapist though, not a spa type salon (those are nice in their own way too). My chiro clinic has a massage therapist on staff, so I can see them both in one visit.
I felt my absolute best in the world when I was getting both adjustments and massages every week or every other week. Have NEVER felt so pain free! Sadly, my insurance no longer covers the visits, so I can't afford to go that frequently anymore, and I only do the massages occasionally when I really need them... .
It's not magic, I'm sorry you didn't have a more favorable outcome :-(
My mom has had back pain that only physical therapy could help. Other things she was helped by chiro. It really depends on the issue.
Man, if only insurance would cover massages right!? :-)
Is Bloomington SW enough? If Dr. Amiot is still at Northwestern Health Sciences University I would highly recommend going to her!! They also have excellent massage therapists there. It's not like going to a spa but that's not really the point of it there.
I would recommend trying one out and seeing for yourself but definitely get a good recommendation for a chiro.
My mom went to a Chiro who turned out to be bad. She had an MRI, then was suggested to a Chiro from her Dr., had him adjust her 3 days in a week. Then she ended up in the ER from serious back and neck pain, had another MRI and found out she had 6 herniated discs and needed emergency surgery on her neck to prevent permanent paralyzation like 3 weeks before my wedding, so she had to wear a neck brace the whole time at my wedding. They aren't sure if this was caused by the Chiro but it was definitely accelerated by him.
I went to a chiro regularly when I lived at home. I loved it! I too, sit at a computer 5 days a week and have horrible 'hunching'. I've always loved going. My current insurance only covers certain chiros and the one that they cover doesn't believe in regular adjustments. She only wants to adjust me when I'm in pain, which I don't like. I'm going to be covered by my H's insurance starting in January and I look foward to being able to go in for regular adjustments.
I'm biased because Josh is a great one but I think it's worth going to a good one to see if it makes you feel better. I'm sorry you're wonky
And I'd suggest you see Josh because he treats my friends for a cheaper rate but I don't think you go to Grand Ave often?
big BIG yea from me.
i've gone to Complete Chiropractic off and on for years. I see Dr. Dan. I really like Charlie for massage there and love that Dr. Dan does acupuncture as well. (Which I've had a recommend for headaches!)
That said, I'm definitely going to see Alyssa's hubby Josh next time I want to go in. We share a lot of the same philosophies on nutrition, health and well being and that's important to me. He's at Grand Avenue Natural Medicine Center.
Coming in late but all I have to say is go with a recommendation. A good chiropractor is worth their weight in gold. The problem is there are a lot of bad ones who care more about getting your money than getting you better. But, there are also a lot of good ones.
One of my best friends is a chiropractor and I am a huge advocate for chiropractic. Unfortunately I moved out of state and DH and I have both had bad experiences with 2 different chiros and are still in search for a good one.
