I'd text you, but I have an I-phone and the battery sucks and it always dies on me, but how was your first day back?

Re: Jess

  • thanks for asking!

it went really well! i had to get up at 6 in order to time everything :( eventually i'll figure it out once she gets on a schedule. i got to bring her with me from 8:30-10 and then my mom came and picked her up.  of course i cried.  i was actually doing fine and everyone else started crying when she was leaving b/c they felt so bad for me. so then i started crying! i am a sap and went there to see her at lunch :P  overall, the day was pretty good.  it was nice to have conversation and i was so damn busy that i didn't have time to really be sad.  let me just tell you how annoying it is to pump at work. it sucks.

i get to be home tomorrow so i'm happy again :)

how's miss kiley doing? i love her.

  • That's good that you got to keep her with you for a bit, I bet it was hard to leave her! I would of cried too! I can imagine the pumping being annoying!  You'll get into the swing of things soon.  Like I said I think it will help Zoey get on a schedule as well! =)

She's good, cranky today, but I think we are both coming down with something.  I have a horrible sore throat all day and been extremely tired! I hope she doesn't get it though! I'm hoping it's just allergies!

  • that sucks! i've been taking 2 vitamin c's a day hoping she would get some of it too to help keep us healthy! feel better! i don't even want to think about taking care of a baby while sick. ugh!

what's your pumping schedule? do you pump when he eats or do you just pump when you have time? do you have to supplement as well? (rebecca, i want you to answer this too)

today i fed her at 6. took a shower. pumped a whole bottle (4.5 oz), fed her again at 8 (mostly b/c i wanted to hold her over since i was bringing her to work. she only fed for 12 mins. when she's a 15R/15L everytime), pumped for 15 mins at 9:45, pumped another 15 mins at 11:30 (got 6 oz total from those 2 sessions), went to feed her at 2 but i was 5 mins. late so i had to pump instead (got another 4.5oz), then she ate at 4:30 (which i missed again) so i pumped again and got another 4.5oz).  is that good? should i be pumping more? at home i usually pump an hr after i feed her which i obviously can't do at work.  any tips?  i do get to work from home on tuesdays and thursdays so i'm going to have to use those days and the weekend to build up.   so far i've already pumped today what she ate so i'm ahead of the game :)

    eta: thank you!

  • I pump 3 times at work for 20 minutes each (I think Rebecca does 2). I either pump or feed him before work at 6 and then get to work at 7:30 and pump at 9, 12 and 3. I leave at 5 and then feed him at 6 when I get home. I started out pumping 15 minutes but wasn't getting very much so I pushed to 20 to see if that would help.

It works out that it's pretty much around when he eats depending on his napping. I prefer it that way so he's not waiting for me get home to eat. Sometimes he'll be "scheduled" to eat at 5 but he can be held over until 6 when I get home.

I have my own office so I can pump on my own schedule so I haven't had to just do it when I have time. I'm pretty strict about staying on schedule if I can help it so I can maintain my supply. It is VERY hard to get the same output. I don't get nearly as much as I did when I first came back to work and I know it's not what he's getting when he nurses either but it's better than nothing.

So far we haven't had to supplement b/c we've had some freezer stash to work with. I think that's key to peace of mind when you're having to pump at work. So if you can build up a freezer stash that will help a lot to help you relax and it sounds like you've got a plan to do that. I really think you working from home two days is going to help you big time.

So yes, I think what you did yesterday is good. I think it's definitely plenty as far as telling your body to keep producing. It will likely just start to depend on what your output starts to do.

Hope that helps! Feel free to ask questions when you need to!
