Cake ?

HI Ladies,

I am co-hosting a baby shower in a few weeks and I have been put in charge of ordering the cake.   I would like to get something a little nicer than a cake from Kroger or Sams, so does anyone have any recommendations that will not break the bank?   I have already researched Servatti's, North College Hill Bakery, Bonbonerie.   I also live on the west side but I am willing to travel if the cake is worth it.   Also the mom-to-be requested white cake with white icing.  I was just looking for some other options.

Re: Cake ?

  • We taste tested Diane's on the west side.  Pretty good and very inexpensive but we liked others better.

  • I am in love with Tres Belle cakes. Her name is Tracy Bellman and she runs her bakery out of her house in Norwood. Her website is tresbellecakes.com

  • I just went to a bunch of tastings with my sister last week.  She looked at Bonbonerie, Tres Belle, Spoon Fulla Sugar, and Patricia's.  Patricia's is now just as expensive as Bonbonerie and the quality seems to have gone down some so I would not recommend them.  Take the Cake in Northside is good too.  Bluebird in Glendale did my cake-very good but they don't do sheet cakes.  Not fancy, but Costco has way better cakes than Kroger for about the same price.  SIL just served a white cake with cheesecake filling at a birthday party.

  • White cake with white icing....  St. Lawrence Bakery. Yummmy and cheap!!!! Or there is a place on Glenway by the old Covedale Theatre... I can't think of the name of it, but heard it's really good. Good Luck!
  • I agree with St Lawrence Bakery!

Shalini did our wedding cake - and it was fabulous! She makes chocolates for Findlay Market stores (I know Market Wines carries them) and has actually published a book on cake decorating. She's more affordable than you'd think, though.

Beside all that - she's just a genuinely nice lady.

  • Fantasy in Frosting makes really cute baby cakes and they are affordable too - give them a call.

  • For every baby shower I have hosted I have gone to Cake Creations by Sue on Harrison Ave.

The are only doing cookies and cupcakes now, but their cookies are delicious and always get raves from guests!  Definitely affordable and they are custom made, so you can do any design/color/etc you want. They have galleries to look at what they've done.  I highly recommend.

  • Believe it or not, you might want to look at Busken. A couple years ago, I used them for a baby shower. The cake was really good, and wasn't too expensive. I think that division is called CakeTown??

We now have a family member who can make awesome cakes, so we usualy ask her if she is available. (She even made my wedding cake!!)

    HTH!
