I am getting way ahead of myself. Tell me to stop

I have requested vacation time from work for the week between Christmas and New Years.  DH's company shuts down that week, and it would be fun to go visit friends.

Here's my dilemma.  My two best friends live in Vegas and San Francisco.  Either place we go would be fun, and we would have a free place to stay.  I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to go to both in one week.  However, it's looking sort of expensive to do that, with the flights and such.  Flying (or driving) to one city is not so bad, but trying to do both makes it cost almost $400 a person, which is more than I want to spend.

And, I haven't even gotten approval yet for the time off!  So I'm just going crazy for no reason.

If I did one city, I'm not sure which to pick.  DH has never been to Vegas. We've both been to SF, but my friend there is almost done remodeling her whole house, and I really want to see it.  And SF is just so much fun! (more fun than Vegas, imo).

And PS, if you want to check out my friend's house, she has a blog!  The transformation has been amazing.

  • I love planning vacations. My mom told me last week that we're going to NYC and Philadelphia next summer when my dad goes on R&R, and I've already started mapping the trip out. :P

I saw the blog - the house transformation is amazing! I would love to see it, too. I'd hold your horses until your vacation is approved, then sit down and weight the pros and cons of going to either place. Maybe you can do one now and one in the spring or summer?

  • I agree with Ebonie. Get it approved, and then determine where to go.

I would wait for Vegas until the early summer/late spring or late fall next year -- weather wise.

Go to SF. Fun! You know I'm always biased for LV, but if you like SF more, go there.

  • I was in Vegas last June when my friend moved up there, and it was already 100 degrees!  I swore to her that I would not be coming back when it's above 85.  So December is good for that.

Now I'm wondering if we can talk FIL into giving us some of his frequent flyer miles (he's offered them in the past) so we can afford this.

CHeck out Virgin -- if you do SFO to LV sometimes they have crazy cheap deals.

  • Thanks Jackie!  I checked Virgin for flights, and they are cheap!  Awesome!

Awesome-o! Best.Airline.Ever. True story. I big big big puffy heart them. Oh, and BTW. The other day I called someone a douchecanoe in front of DH (a guy cut us off driving) and he has now taken it in his vocab. Thank you.

  • The house looks amazing, but I think I would do Vegas especially since DH has never been.
