Help!

We have mice. More than just a few. :(  We have had a few traps out for over a week now and we haven't caught anything. I found a hole in the bag of dog treats and I'm worried about them getting into our food.

Any suggestions on how to get rid of them? It has to be something safe for the dogs. J says no cats (yes, I tried to use that to win him over!) I'm guessing they moved in when the house was vacant and now that it's getting cold they are out more. Yuck!

Re: Help!

  • When we had mice a few years ago we had an exterminator come in and use pet/child proof poison traps. We caught 12 mice in one month before we decided to have the exterminator come in and put those traps all over. The only thing I didn't like about them is that it doesn't "catch" mice, they go in  and eat the poison and then they die in random places. Good luck! I hate mice, I hope you can figure something out soon.

  • I hate dealing with mice, at our old flat we had a huge problem and we lived on the third floor, I can't imagine how bad it was downstairs. Our building management hired someone and they came and patched holes and put the poison down and they never came back. I would hire someone to be honest, a mouse can get through a hole the size of a dime and a professional would be able to find how they are getting in.
  • I never had a problem with mice, thankfully. I agree with hiring someone if possible. Good luck!
  • Ditto on the professional! You go to start with sealing up the outside. We have poison traps put down, and while they're in boxes that only the mice can get in, if your dogs eat the mice (hey, you never know) they can get poisoned too.
  • Oh no!!

I agree on hiring a professional, mice are so hard to get rid of. Of course unless you have cats.

  • Looks like we will be making a call. Thank you for the suggestions ladies!

  • Hire a professional and slip him 20 bucks to tell J that a cat would be a preventative measure!
