How often do you go to the grocery store? I go every week and it's a serious pain in the ass because it's so far away (35-40 minutes). I want to cut down to once every two weeks...does that even seem possible? I'd have to double up on milk, cereal, and pop...(the things that DH would die without)...hm.

Re: Grocery shopping
I usually go 2-3 times a week when I don't do big shopping. I can get away with going once every two weeks [with a random stop to pick up more milk or juice for JJ] if I plan it out right.
I bet you could make it work if you plan it out. Driving that far to go get groceries? Boo.
We usually go 1-2 x week.
1 is a big shop and 2 if we forget.
I need to go after work...we have no meats, fresh fruit, and are running low on veggies...oh and snacks...like nuts/yogurt/cheese/etc.
I have 3 categories of grocery trips: big, medium, and small.
We use a lot of frozen veggies, and meats go in the freezer. Those I try to buy in bulk. I stock up on our big trip, about every 4 weeks.
Then every other week is a small trip: milk, bread, fresh fruits and veggies.
The remaining weeks is the medium trip. We're not ready for a big, stock up trip, but need more than a small trip.
Summary: Big, Small, Medium, Small - Repeat. That's just how it works out.
I tried to start only going about 2 times a month.
Luckily, I found that Costco's (don't know if you have one) milk lasts WAY longer than milk bought at the grocery store. There milk is dated way out.
Also, for produce, I'd buy the Tupperware produce savers. They are awesome if you want to cut down on the times you want to shop. They are definitely pricey, but better than the others that advertise they keep food good.
I'm trying to go less than once a week, but I don't like planning out meals way in advance. But, what I have been doing that works for me is to go through my recipes to see if there's anything specific that I want to make, and if there is, I get the stuff for it. Otherwise, I'm getting better at buying things to have around to make a variety of things.
My only problem is fresh fruits and veggies. They just don't last that long, and I don't really like frozen or canned.
1x a week unless i forget/we need something... or i have a craving
i used to go to walmart every week or every other and now only go 1x a month. i try to stock up on some things there (DH's diet coke, cereal, canned goods, pantry-type items). and that's usually where i get cleaning supplies and toiletry items.
We do a big shop about every 2 weeks. I shop the circular and make our meal plan by whats on sale. Once you get good at it, this only takes 10-15 min.
We have to restock on milk and bread, and any fresh produce needed in the summer, in between though. But this seriously saves us big money and time. In the winter we primarily just eat frozen veggies because fresh is always so expensive. Except lettuce, tomatoes, potatoes and bananas. Those we always buy fresh.
