So since having DS, DH and I have decided that we need to devise a weekly cleaning schedule. I've got one in mind but I'm trying to see if anybody has a more efficient schedule.
I'm also curious as to how long it takes you to do each days chores. I usually have about 30 minutes before DH brings DS home from the IL's house that I try and be somewhat productive and then I finish everything up after DS goes to sleep.
So here's the schedule that I've got in mind.
Monday: Vacuum
Tuesday: Mopping the floors in kitchen and two bathrooms, wiping down baseboards
Wednesday: Bathrooms
Thursday: Dusting
Friday: ????
Daily: dishes, wipe down kitchen counters
Saturday or Sunday: Laundry and ironing
Am I missing anything?
Re: Cleaning schedules
I'm not sure if your baby is mobile yet or not but when he does start to crawl, you're going to want to vacuum and mop your floors more than once a week!
I make an effort to clean/disinfect all my light switches, door handles, cabinet pulls, etc. especially with cold and flu season upon us.
An American Girl's Travels
The once a week laundry and vacuuming were the flags on my radar when I read this. I'm just jealous.
We can get away with laundry once a week because the kid has a larger wardrobe than me. Ha.
I was thinking that I might need to do the vacuuming and mopping more often myself. I'm contemplating buying a Haan to help make mopping faster and since it sanitizes. But I"m a little torn because the reviews seem all over the place.
It's so much more efficient to wash a load of laundry each day and spend 5 minutes putting it away, rather than having to spend a whole weekend morning doing it.
My morning routine:
Make bed, get cleaned up and dressed, wipe down toilet and sink (quickly, nothing super detailed), vacuum/swiffer (I have three dogs, so it has to be done daily. I just do a quick 5 minute job in my bedroom and the living room, where they spend the most time and thus do the most shedding.), poor my coffee and reset the coffee pot for the next morning, empty dishwasher, fill crock pot, throw a load of laundry in the washer, grab my gym back and lunch, head out the door. Start to finish is an hour, half hour of that is showering, getting dressed/makeup/hair.
Afternoon:
As soon as I get home, I put my tupperware from lunch into the dishwasher, let the dogs out, transfer laundry to dryer, eat dinner.
Evening:
Clean up from dinner (normally includes wiping down the front of the fridge, dishwasher and stove because of dog slobber), assemble the next day's crock pot contents, pack my lunch and gym back, make sure purse and keys are near the door. Fold and put away the load of laundry. After the dogs eat, we wipe the floor with a Lysol wipe, so at any given time, our floor isn't terrible.
I like coming home to a relatively tidy home, dinner's already cooked, and I don't have any excuses about being too worn out from work to do my daily housekeeping things.
If I have extra time on my hands, I do more. On Saturdays, I do a quick steam mop of the hard floors (I have a Shark) and wipe dog prints off windows and mirrors.
Flylady.net has detailed cleaning schedules. They may not work for you, but really what matters is establishing routines and good habits.
Sunday: Kitchen
Monday: Bathroom
Tuesday: Living room, dining room
Wednesday: Kitchen
Thursday: Basement
Friday: Bedrooms
Daily: make beds, pick up, laundry, wipe down counters
WOW. Monday - Friday is basically...
Cook dinner, dishes, sweep.
All other cleaning is left to the weekend. Mainly Sunday.
There might be a load of laundry during the week, but never more than one.
OHHH, and my 3 yr olds room is done nightly...by her, of course.
